It might be just me but it was very slow loading and kept jumping...I couldn't really scroll.

 

i like the design so far though.

interesting, haven't done ANY testing on it so far and its pretty javascript heavy, what OS / browser are you using?

I was using IE7...doesn't jump for me on firefox 2 though.

I would take the {}'s of the header.

And the site color changer thing, i think you should make it more obvious, like having "See this site in another colour" or something above it...because i only found it by accident!

Also, mabey you could do something with the white background.

 

But other than that, it looks great!

The {} is for css syntax, that's why there's a colon too, {stunning:css}

Agree with you about the style switcher but not sure how obvious it should be, took me a while to find a nice working script and modify it, but at the end of the day it's a bit of a novelty.

White background should have very faint diagonal stripes (I hate plain blocks of white)

 

IE8 - LMAO, I'll wait till the official version is released before tackling that though as it could easly be a beta bug!

There's a serious performance issue with it in IE7.

Like Mike says, it's not really possible to even scroll down. Every time you scroll down a little, CPU utilisation shoots up to 100%, and Internet Explorer takes ages to redraw the screen.

 

No such performance issue in Firefox, but there's other bugs, like the black people outlines do not appear above the navigation links, they only flicker on then off again as the page loads.

In FF, it appears to be working best, but your silhouette figures on the main banner aren't loading for me.

 

With IE8, emulating IE7, the page is very laggy in terms of scrolling and loading...

 

In IE8 itself, the website pictures/links appear down the page, and the style changer won't change from green.

 

 

But I do really like the site layout and header design

lets concentrate on ff3 for now I'm going to go back with my mighty conditional IE stylesheet tomorrow! - I'm 99% sure I know what's causing the lag..........

 

here i'll rip it out to see if I'm right (javascript that controls the tabs in the sidebar which I can quite easily replace with a jquery alternative)

As of now in FF3, the figures are now appearing on your header , but your tabs for 'tag cloud', 'categories', and 'blog' have just turned into a list of links...

It's a very nice design - could do with some padding on the right column I think though.

No performance issues for me (trusty ff2).

abosutely - its just cause I've got this bloody javascript turned off while I'm waiting for someone to tell me if it's made any difference in IE7

yeah know the menu jumps a little, not sure if I can be bothered to fix that - but we shall see!

30 Kb (rawkes thumb) for a 150 x 150 thumbnail is way tooooo much (not sure why you chose PNG24).

Here's the same thumb as a 60% quality JPEG for 5K (that's 6 times less):

mihai, I've been grabbing screenshots just by using the Mac keyboard shortcut - didn't actually realise they were that big! You're completely right, I'll see if I can find another way of doing it.

what did you use for the gallery? did you use wordpress because on the about page it says this is a wordpress page etc

Let me first say that I love the header and the {stunning:css} idea, and the favicon. Good job on those! I however don't like the tabs design-wise (the irregularity in its angle makes it pop up: does the menu deserve so much emphasis?). On mouse hover, the links move so they seem separated from the tabs themselves. Put differently, the links don't look like they are tab (same goes for the Submit button). Also, I'd recommend preloading these images.

 

The color changer is a good idea but the type color doesn't always work in the main content. Here's a great resource to verify when in doubt: http://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html. Blue on purple, gray and another shade of blue were all negatives according to the colour contrast checker. My suggestion would be to change the main copy color in each CSS file.

 

Lastly, I'd like to bring to your attention that the block's drop shadow effect isn't "continuous" (for lack of a better word) with the main background image (the vertical stripes). The vertical borders also have a strange effect on these blocks, as shown in the picture I uploaded (which shows both issues). It's a minor issue but when I visit a CSS gallery, I expect near perfection.

 

Well! I'm generally very nit-picky when I criticize web designs so don't take my comments wrongly. I really like how it started, in fact I was quite stunned to read that you pull this off in such a small amount of time! Good job so far; I'm eager to see how it will be like when you reach the polishing phase. So far so good!

Looks really good, the navagation at top is very jumpy in safari and FF3 for me on the mac.

 

Also took a while for a few of the pages to load.

 

Other than for me it was lovely and good luck with it, I will defiantly submit some sites to it.

Still playing with the body copy colour, not convinced yet that it's enough of a problem to change it for each stylesheet, but I do take your point on board.

I do know about the drop shadow bit, was trying to make it look like it was on the background, but was then lifted off leaving its imprint behind? Iike you, I'm not sure if its working particulary well!
