Every week I do a backup of data on a CD. Today also decided to do it because of the lost data from the hard drive, but could not open the files on the drive, an external drive without any damage.

 

Is there a way to recover the data?

When you spin up the CD do you actually see any files in your file manager screen or do you see nothing?

 

Things to try:

 

1. Give your CD drive a blow out, could be dusty

2. Clean your CD carefully with an approved method (a quick search will give you some tips)

3. Try another CD drive

 

If none of those work you could try a "CD recovery" service/app which may be able to recover some or all your files.

It is possible that the same CD can be read in another drive.

CD/DVD get scratched due to regular use. You can use following methods to recover data. I assure you that after using these methods, you will have all your data.

1. Clean the CD/DVD properly as dust can be a reason.
2. Use a CD/DVD writer instead a CD/DVD reader device for such corrupted disks, because DVD writer are more powerful than DVD reader.
3. If nothing happens, then you should opt for a third party data recovery software. This is the best way to recover data from CD/DVD/Blue-Ray disks.

Is the CD, CD-RW or CD that can be written only once? If rewritable, then maybe the CD has reached its end of life.

Did you checked if it works after you burned it? Making backup on CD is not a good idea.

Also if none of these advices mentioned above helps you, then go to music stores and show them your disc. Such stores usually have a CD refinishing machine and may be able to do a better job.
