advice on the design of my site

Featured Replies

hello im currently building an e-commerce website based on opencart and was wondering if you can all look at my site and tell me what you think so far, please remember it is not yet finished. also any advice on what i can do with home page content in regards to the design and layout. im in the prosess of changing the colour

my site is raseinteriors.uk

Get rid of the homepage slider. They are ineffective.

What have Gardens and Militaria got to do with Interiors?

If a category is empty - remove it from the site.

Sort out the descriptions, you need to write your own not copy somebody else's.

Put the product name above the image and put the description on the right. Hide the product number (nobody cares). Hide the availability - if it's not in stock don't display it on the site. Hide the reviews tab unless there are any.

The site just doesn't work well on a phone. It just looks like a squished up version of the main site - fixing the above will help a bit. But it's not good.

Change 'Add to Cart' to 'Add to Basket'.

The product comparison is very flaky. I had a number of tabs open with different products, I added them all to compare and it all went pete tong.

Tried to buy a product as a guest and the site ground to a halt. So couldn't test the checkout.

The header is very dark compared with the rest of the site. Give it a white or at least a lighter background.

Put your contact details in the header and footer, I want to know there is someone I can call (it's a confidence thing).

Get the .co.uk and use this for the primary site. google hasn't really got the hang of .uk yet.

That will do for a start.

Hi

The site itself does not look all that bad with exception of a few changes

Firstly, I would de-clutter, this means reducing the size of the elements in the header, I would play with it so that there is more room in there, somewhere for the eyes to breathe, maybe reducing the size of the logo and search bar which would mean redesigning the cart button to still stand out but not rely on being the same size as the search bar.

Second, I would get rid of the sidebar and place that vertical list under the menu horizontally. Once the sidebar has gone, your content will stand out much more because you could increase the width of the sections to be more square, then add some colour to the add to cart and use the same colour on the prices.

Just a few suggestions

Doesn't look any different. None of the suggested changes have been implemented so not sure what has been done.

try a had refresh your browser, scroll down past the sideshow and yiu should see the difference. ive gone to 1 colum and the product informayion box has had a face lift

Regarding the front-end look:

- reduce the logo

- get rid of the top slider

- i am not sure you need a reviews for products like furniture

- think about implementing a technique known as infinite scroll or a "load more" type button for pagination. this simple solution enables the user to scroll up and down the list, while having a recognizable point to return to.

I like your website. How did you make it? I want to try building an eCommerce website for me using only free tools like Webstarts, for example. What can you recommend me to look for?

A text editor.

what happened to your website. It seems to be suspended now.

I would absolutely threw up that slider at home page. I would also look at the footer, it's quite big.
