October 28, 201510 yr Hi guys! Web and mail hosting is imo a very technical process that can be hard to understand, if you're not into it. I've been hosting a few webdesign customers, getting along alright the past years. But now I'm calling the quits as it's not paying. My customers never understood, why they always struggle with certificate errors in their email software, even so I explained to them a dozen times that they have to pay for valid certs, otherwise there's nothing that I can do about it. I cannot just "hack" or "fix" this. They didn't understand, technically. I don't know why. Now I want to migrate them to a nice managed hosting I found, where people are really managing and not just selling of a virtual machine without carring. But: Some of them got some new "tech" guy, that is incompetent beyond anything. He's a "Mac guy" (don't know if that's a real thing), and the customers are all running Macs, so they believe he's genuine cause he can update their Mac computers. He's been asking to not have a Linux or Windows hosting, cause he's worried for Mac compatiblity. For *** real. I'm seriously uncapable of finding a way how to communicate with them. They are nice people that hung with me through some tough years, and sure, they are not blame for not having the technical insight. Any advice is appreciated.
October 28, 201510 yr Hi, We have had similar issues where clients have an 'expert' helping them who have very little real technical knowledge. I would just advise you to stick to your guns, perhaps use some external links to prove your point, and eventually the message does get through (although some hair pulling goes on in the background!). October 28, 201510 yr Too many 'experts' in this industry. Although I'm not a fan of windows based hosting, Unix all the way. But I don't see what the problem is with linux as it runs on unix cli just like mac does Edited October 28, 201510 yr by rbrtsmith

Worried about compatibility.... what a joke, serving a webpage from any web server depending on the web browser will look and work the same. I'll brace myself then I guess, Arming myself with links is a good idea, however up to this point none of them showed any interest in reading or even listening to the facts. Still it feels like letting your baby cat run off into the jungle where Kaa is already waiting for "guidance".

October 29, 201510 yr It should be fairly easy to explain that the servers OS has nothing to do with the clients OS.
