Difference Batween Designing and Developing

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am having a distinction with someone about the differences between Web Designing and Developing.

Is designing like designing the website on paper and then into illustrator and Photoshop.

For Developing, is it the coding side HTML, CSS, JS, PHP etc ?

In the traditional sense a "designer" might do visual design, but you could have a scenario where a developer designs a "system" to perform one or more specific tasks.

It's a grey area!

Yeah sod tradition! A good designer / developer takes into account the other roles in the design and development process ... handover to specialists should be seamless so the more a front end designer knows about the back end developers role the neater the end project; and the more the design and development team know about seo through architecture etc the easier the seo and marketing teams role is.

A designer is someone who deals with creating imagery and overal visual/emotional experience and creativity within a website using techniques like user experience and user interface theories.

A developer makes those experiences come to life, they deal with coding and 'features' the things that make the site a site and not just an image.

Some designers do learn some development skills if for example they did a course in web 'design' they might be taught the basics of html and css with an emphasis on design (or at least it is in my course). That in itself does not make you a designer and developer, it simply means you know the basics to make a start as development is far more involved than just html and css.

Put simply, if you were building a house, a designer would design the shape, a developer would plan and build it and then a designer would decorate it.

Designing is a process in which a designer is concerned with how a site looks and how the customers interact with it.And put the principle of design together to create a site to look great.Design is the act of planning and creating artistically and prepares a preliminary sketch of the form and function of something.

Developing is an another process on the back-end of the website in which a developer concerned with programming and interactions on the pages and focuses on how a site works and how the customers get things done on it.Development makes that design functional. A developer will work within the design framework of a website and actually create the functional elements.
