March 26, 201511 yr Hi all... We're in the early stages of redesiging our business e-commerce website. The site is currently doing very well, but we feel the time is to give it a facelift and keep up to date with the latest trends. With that in mind, we're moving over to the Magento Platform. The concern is how this transformation will affect sales. Around 30% of our visitors come from organic SEO whilst 50/60% is ppc (Google Adverts) and the rest from direct visits. Has anyone gone through this process and what would be the 'Best Practice'? I believe Magento writes SEO friendly code, but we still have concerns. Any advise would be much apprecited. Nervous times ahead i guess. Thanks in advance Andy
March 26, 201511 yr The site is currently doing very well, but we feel the time is to give it a facelift and keep up to date with the latest trends. With that in mind, we're moving over to the Magento Platform. Keeping up with the "latest trends" is not always the best approach. If the current site is doing very well then why change platform? Just introduce a fresh presentation for what you have. Magento is both popular and powerful, but it isn't always the best fit for any business, have you thoroughly evaluated it to see if it fits your business needs? It's worth bearing in mind that there are 100's of good ecommerce platforms around before you leap. Has anyone gone through this process and what would be the 'Best Practice'? The biggest one is handling redirections - old page > new page - so search engine can reindex your content. I believe Magento writes SEO friendly code, but we still have concerns. SEO is about your content, not necessarily your code, but if you write semantic HTML you'll benefit from good accessibility as well. I can't speak for general default templates in Magento but like many of these system they do suffer from tag soup - but if you're writing your own template you can avoid that!

Thus, this process could be a very complicated task while redesigning of the website. You must follow these SEO guidelines before redesigning your website: 1. February 26, 201610 yr Moving website from one Ecommerce platform to another is not easy task you require hardwork. You have to keep in mind that your product page urls and link structure must be same as you have previously. And if you change urls or products name, then implements correct redirects so search crawling and indexing never get affected and you're existing customers will get the same experiences even better. And if you remove some products, then it is needed to put correct 404 page. You keep everything same as previous one except the platform then your web traffic will not get affected.
