I have just finished the design of my first website. It is a personal one for my music. I am happy with the designs and the minimal feel to it so don't want to change that.

 

I feel that the home page needs something else. Because I don't have constant news like some artists might it's hard to pack it out, but is there any suggestion to what I could add? Or any idea to improve the lay out without changing it too much?

 

Any ideas for extra content I could add would be cool, or any widgets that can be easily added.

I would make the "welcome" header smaller than the main header though, sort of detracts your attention. The layout feels a bit all over the place. My eyes were wandering all over he page trying to focus on a particular spot.

One thing I'm not keen on is the long line length of the main column. Makes it difficult to read.

I have replaced the welcome banner with a smaller version. At first I wanted it larger as a big "welcome" to the page but now it has been pointed out I agree with it being smaller

 

I too feel that the side bar just goes down too much, especially as it is blank for most of the main div. There is still something about it that niggles me for improvements. My mind goes a bit blank though

 

Glad you like the colours :-) it has changed so much from the horrible blaring orange I began with to a bright blue to now a nice simple white! Glad I got some sense lol

The top half of the site is nice (header, menu, welcome banner etc). But as i continue to scroll down the page, the site starts to lose its appeal as more and more white space becomes visible.

 

This is obviously due to the content in your sidebar greatly outweighing the content in your main content area. I don't know if you're just waiting to fill up the page with more info, but if not you could try adding a sidebar to the left and turning it into a 3 column layout. That way you could put some of the content from the right sidebar on the other side and even things out a bit.

The welcome header is much better!

 

I would add some padding either side of the main content to bring it inline with the welcome header too.
