May 23, 201412 yr Sites like Fiverr, E-Lance, and other sites with a similar concept are what is basically dropping out the value in the design profession. People who are uneducated in the ways of design and the internet will simply see a price difference and not a whole lot else. You can be familiar with code and still have no clue on how to create a good looking or functional design. If it's code that's your passion, try web development instead of design. That involves working with php and some other complicated web languages to make web-rich applications in a rapidly expanding market. You've only got to look on awwwards.com to see that all the top sites are coded in partnership with some very talented web developers. Don't go on those work-auction sites, you'll only get abused and under valued and you'll simply be adding to the problem facing the industry. Instead, get your skills to a level where you can justify a reasonable price to clients. If you're putting logo design work on fiverr for example, we know that what you're producing is worthless. You can earn money online (without having to track down clients) by creating themes for different opensource platforms. If you're any good, you can make wordpress themes, prestashop themes, woo-commerce themes (same as wordpress, sort of) and then sell them. Outside of that, work on a portfolio, get it online and get seen.
May 23, 201412 yr 99 designs and the others are the most hideous places ever, you will get a design but whether it is suitable for your business is anybody's guess as all ultimate choice is left to a client who has no idea how to assess their business design needs and a graphic designer who has never assed their business needs. These types of sites are not much better than buying a ready made logo and adding your name to it, sure you can describe what you want but is what you want right for your business or what your business needs, I am betting not. The designers who use those sites to tout work are the ones with a very low sense of self worth either because they are great at design but design without meaning, are in countries where they can do this work for much less, or are simply not able to comprehend the skills they have and what they are really worth. My suggestion would be to look for work, even if you have to start by doing a few free jobs to get your name out there, stay well away from these horrible sites, they are a graphic design nightmare and not a solution for work. Chances are you would spend all your time wasting it creating stuff for free anyway.
May 24, 201412 yr but you have to make direct client as well to become full time designer elance and odesk not pays you well i mean it pay you today not sure for towmarrow
May 24, 201412 yr but you have to make direct client as well to become full time designer elance and odesk not pays you well i mean it pay you today not sure for towmarrow If it cost's you £3.00 per day to sit at your pc designing and coding in electric but you only get paid £5.00 a week for that work you are better off going for a walk and giving £1.00 a day to a homeless guy! Why would you want to work for those silly rates, devaluing yourself and your work into negative equity?
June 20, 201412 yr I'd steer clear of of odesk, 99designs etc. Like some of the other posters have said, the vast majority of services offered on those sites are of extremely poor quality. Best to get a nice portfolio together and look elsewhere for work. Edited June 20, 201412 yr by Scott Brerton
July 14, 201412 yr Those design sites are like buying a container full of plastic toys from china. Well, I prefer solid artisanry, built for generations to last .. (well, in web design, maybe not generations, but for many years? )
August 1, 201412 yr I agree with everyone else playing them sites down. I use 99designs not to find work, but to learn. I had only one logo in my portfolio so I decided to find some strong design briefs and then designed a logo from there, not for them but for myself. I have to admit that I once attempted a contest, but in all honesty the client picked the worst logo for his requirements.
