Portfolio redesign

Featured Replies

HI everyone,

I am currently in the process of redesigning my website I have put together the first page (well haven't done the footer yet) and thought it would be best to get feedback at this stage rather than asking once its all done and then have to do big revisions.

So basically do you think the design is worth carrying on with throughout the site and is there any thing you would or I should do different or maybe add.

I work on a iMac so I haven't checked in IE but I think due to the complicated code there might be an issue if anyone could check or better still come back with a fix it would be greatly appreciated.

I really liked it until I saw the code... Why have you used this strange div/ table layout hybrid? A site like this would not be hard to layout using CSS only - you really should make the effort.

Other than that, nice js rollover effects and attention to detail. On your right column, I didn't like the fact that the '£' appeared above '195' and not to the left of it.

agree with notbanksy, lose the tables in favour of css.

I like the colours and the rollover effect.

I actually don't mind the £ above the price, though it may be better if it was in front of the price and you had "from" above it instead.

Yeah I think i'll go for the from £ 195 idea, good shout.

The bits that are in tables are for the popup table above the links when hovered. If you know or anyone else know how to do that I css I would be willing to listen. I got the idea from the coda site and there using tables for that part. www.panic.com/coda

Why is the headings (almost) in the same size as your logo? I have already forgotten your web site's name and Url because of that. You are giving the users a wrong focus.

Good luck.

Sono Juventino: I respectfully disagree I think that the logo text is big enough in comparison to links.

I really like the layout and its nice and easy to get around at your site.

I was wondering though does google ban you if you put something into a heading and indent it -9999px? Do search engines consider that as a cheat?

Seriously dude, clean that code up.

You've got 2 x <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />

... and for the sake of humanity, lose the tables. There is nothing ther ethat cannot be built in css.

Acrylic: Cheers, no google won't class that as a cheat. Because the text that is in there is the same as the image that its replacing. If it had loads of text in there with lots of keywords that weren't the same as the image over the top then thats another story.

PointandStare: took out that extra meta cheers. I got technique for the coda site and they use tables for that technique. link
