Hi all!

I'm new and probably posting in the wrong place, or covering something that has already been posted many times, so please redirect me!

I'm looking to create my own website, it only needs to be pretty basic and as cheap to set up as possible!

Please can you tell me the steps I need to take to get up and running. I've noted a few down below, am I right!? Could you tell me the best option for each?
Register a domain name - is GoDaddy a good bet?
Get a web host? Not quite sure what this is!!
Create the website itself
Be able to take payment online
Be able to be found through search engines

Then, a few other points:
I want the users of the website to be able to enter a postcode and a distance, and then search so it will bring back relevant results (from data I provide). Sort of how the location bit of Autotrader works for example. Any ideas?

I would want to be on the top pages of Google for certain searches. I've heard about Google Adwords. Does anyone have any advice/tips and any idea of what sort of costs I'm looking at to be in the top results? I'm guessing it depends on the popularity of the search?

How would I go about offering areas of my website to other parties for advertising?

I think that's it for now! Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

You are at right place to get appropriate suggestion for developing of your website along with web Hosting

Register a domain name - is GoDaddy a good bet?
>> I would recommend you to register your domain name with gaint domain registrar like Enom, Namecheap etc. Godaddy is also good option to register a domain.

>> Once your website is ready to go live you need a Web Hosting service provider in order to make website live and accessible all our Internet. Many web hosting companies are available but one needs to decide and make right choice among them. You need to checck for compatible price, 24/7 support service, fully managed hosting, Money back guarantee policy, Addons provided etc.

Create the website itself
>> Many Hosting companies provider Website Builder to develop a new website if in case any new Client is unaware of development.

Be able to take payment online
>> NOw days, every company offer online payment options like Paypa, Credit/Debit Cards, Google-Checkout etc payment gateways.

Be able to be found through search engines
>> Some companies provide SEO tools which can help to perfom SEO and guide us regarding it as well.

Thanks All

I need a logo. I think I just want a nice clean text logo, nothing too fancy. I've seen some free creators online, does anyone have any recommendations for free logos or v. cheap ones?

Also, if I want to pay someone to design my website for me, how much would you expect this to cost? It would probably only need to be 2 very very simple pages.

Cheers

As an experienced entrepreneur I can tell you that a logo is more than just an image to stick in the corner of a page and on a business card. Before you consider what you logo is going to look like you need to define your business much more fully.

What is your market - not just what are you selling but also to who and how?

What image do you wish to convey - smart professional and fashionable maybe, or possibly the quick and simple solution?

What are the right colours to convey that message properly

Why will those colours work better than other might?

Then you start to build a 'corporate identity' - even a 1 man band needs an identity to his clients and that is know as his corporate identity.

From there you can start to identify what is happening elsewhere in your market sector, who is using what, why, and how effective it is for them, would it be effective for you? Plus many other similar self assessment, and competition analysis questions.

Once you have gone through that process and understand fully who what where and why your market is you can start getting some design ideas together. Those ideas are then the beginning of the process that will also allow you to develop your logo, and the image that is the public face of your corporate identity.

For now, based on what you have written here I would suggest registering with some of the business community forums and doing some serious networking on them. They will be the place to develop your ideas and build a project that will become your employment and the bread on your table. Having an idea, getting a website, and launching into the unknown is a sure fired way to fail. Take your time and make sure all foreseeable things are accounted for before you leap!

Hope this helps.

Hi Weedy

Thanks for the advice. I will take it on board as I think I am starting to rush unnecessarily and will end up with a shoddy set up.

When ready, would you advise going to a professional for website design + graphic design? If so, do you know what sort of charges I should be expecting, as I am new to website/business development (as you can tell!)

Thanks
