I realise there's quite a few threads on web hosting companies but I could really do with some up to date info.

 

I have a new client who currently has a 1&1 mywebsite, and need to give her some options for changing hosts. I do have reseller hosting and will offer that but I'd like to give her a couple of other choices.

 

Planning on building a WordPress site with a gallery (she has loads of photos). Not sure about the traffic/bandwidth at the moment although a reasonable limit should be fine as it's a local site, so it's not going to have millions of visitors. What I do need is a good control panel - I'm fine with Plesk and have used a few others over the years. Don't like the GoDaddy cp or the directory structure. Also might need to add an ecommerce site later on.

ive used one.com before, great host for small-medium sized websites and customer support is great

Thanks for the suggestion. Wondering if I'd be better using a UK company though, for the support side of things if nothing else.

Using a UK web host will also give your website better search rankings if its targeted at a UK audience, better site speed for its audience, and if you go with a decent host, then yes, tech support can be better, but as with all things in the service industry, you will get what you pay for..

 

We have a lot of designers/developers like yourself who prefer to let the host do the support so they can concentrate on the stuff they enjoy doing without getting bogged down with setting up email accounts, forgotten passwords etc... Wordpress is extremely impressive too, we recently switched to it instead of a hand coded html site too.

I have a few sites hosted with Webhostingbuzz who I think have servers in the UK and US, and I've had no problems so far.

 

If the majority of the websites' visitors will be based in the UK or it's going to be hosting a .co.uk domain, you really should choose a webhost that has servers in the UK.

 

There are so many different web hosts though, so make sure you do your research before deciding on one.
