Hi there.

 

So I am extremely new to the wonderfully complex and intricate world of web design. I started learning Dreamweaver cs6 5 days ago and, even if I had to say so myself, I have learned a whole lot in terms of writing code, in a very short space of time. I am currently busy designing a website for a local motor vehicle dealership and here's what I want to know. ow do I create a 'back admin' (for want of a better phrase) area for the owner and managers of the respective establishment where they can log in to upload new stock (new cars) to the website? Would this be a CMS extension? I feel like I have hit a reef and I don't want to struggle with the rest of the site until I have figured this thing out. PLEASE HELP.

Hi, welcome to the forum

 

You will need to use a CMS, like Wordpress for example, or if it's only a very basic site in terms of functionality, you can look at CMS like Cushy, here is a topic we have on simple CMS, hope that will be helpful.

There is no easy way to create "back admin" panel, unfortunately.

Another seemingly dumb question (call it part of the learning process); If I have created an entire site using html, css and js using Dreamweaver, can I use php to create a CMS and add it to the existing site? Let's say that I want to add (hypothetically) a finance calculator or an 'add stock' area?

I use Adobe Muse and I know that if the customer hosts the website with Adobe themselves; Adobe Business Catalyst, at just under £5 per month, then they can automatically log into their site as an admin user and edit photos that are already there and edit text. Muse is Adobe's stab at CMS sites.

 

If you are using dreamweaver then if you are a Creative Cloud Member, do you have access to Adobe Muse too? I know I have access to everything Adobe have created, as a paying member. It is incredibly easy to learn.

 

If it was the autoshop I would consider subscribing to www.wazala.com. I could have a shop, which I can add new photos, descriptions and prices etc. The site generates the code that goes on your web page. This would mean that rather than your customer having to edit the site itself, they just go to www.wazala.com and do it there. It's very user friendly. It can also link to PayPal etc and works as a fully functioning shop. The good thing about Wazala is that you can also add it onto your Facebook too...so if they also have a Facebook, their shop will appear there too! Check it out, it's worth knowing about. It would also be a good option for any small shop that you might create a website for.
