June 19, 201313 yr Hello, I made a website a while back http://matthewclaffey.com/ and it has been up and running for about 3 months now and I literally have had no contacts from anyone what so ever I would of thought one person at least maybe I don't know how often it should work but I have re designed the site to see if this will bring in the punters. Pleas tell me if I should keep to the old or go in with the new. http://matthewclaffey.com/updatesite/index.php three quarters developed. Coded in php,jquery html5 and css3. Thankyou.
June 20, 201313 yr hmm looks like the site has had the sh*t kicked out of it! (it's black and blue ) seriously though it's very hard: hard intense blue, hard contrast, hard font, hard lines. maybe if it was in different colour(S) it would be crisp but at the moment it's a bit too much. some more white space would help too. the horizontal lines feel like girders the 'W' of your web and graphic design is lower than the other letters "Lets talk" has an apostrophe in it: traditionally before the 's' i charge cheap rates. your logo i quite like but the Claffey part is too small to read (just remove it) but the logo does look like it's a builder's/plumber's/electrian's logo from the 70s/80s. it has quite a different feel to the rest of the site... all your portfolio work us blue and black as well (?)! might be worth doing some example logos of a differnet colour or something otherwise it looks like you can only work with one colour and black

But whats not to like about blue black I will change the blue to more lighter colour I think that the blue is quite sore on the eyes it maybe the innner shadow I gave it:/.
June 21, 201313 yr general impression is quite good, although I think you should totally re-do some parts of the website such as logo, header, font of the titles in the recent works (the same is with the font of project's description). Also the Homepage is too crowded as for me, I think you should go with one of the options: make a great looking single-page website or a normal website with a number of pages.

June 21, 201313 yr Apart from the bad spelling mistake at the bottom :0 This new template looks quite good but without intending to be rude, I think you're faffing about too much with your own stuff. I think each and every one of us tinker with our site so that it's on revision 12 within 3 months. Sometimes it's the waiting game when you've put out your site. There are other ways to generate business without redesigning your site each time. In fact, I could be wrong (spend too much time on here) but I recall seeing that you made a decent looking logo in the past but have since abandoned it. I think you've got the skills already, it's just fine tuning what you've got rather than start with a blank slate each time. Forgive me if I'm sounding ignorant, I do exactly the same on a regular basis so just trying to help you out rather than doing what we all do far too much
June 21, 201313 yr Author I cant help it haha once I know something new I think of a new idea in designing my site and each time I do it it looks better and better eventually it wil hopefully be ridiculously good but until then I will keep doing what most designers do

Multiple bird kills with one stone: you play with a new technique, add a bit of more variety to your skillset, but more importantly you can showcase your skills. Sure, you may have made 101 revisions of your site, but unless you link your previous versions, your future clients will just see your site as is. There's a pretty decent Twitter developer (forgot his name - sorry) from NY that has links to his previous 3 sites. Each and everyone of the designs are radically different. He does have an excellent portfolio anyway, but by showcasing his previous efforts also exhibits his range - thus his potential clients thinks he's aiiight. Just food for thought
June 22, 201313 yr I agree with 4li4s. You've made some decent sites for yourself but I think in starting from scratch each time won't get to really finessing them. As for this latest effort, its looking good. The line-height and padding could be increased a bit and I agree with the pp about the colour choice. It would be nice to see some warmer colours. If not in your own site perhaps those in your portfolio. The main thing that bothers me in both designs is that the contact menu box does ot line up with the edge of the design.

June 24, 201313 yr I would take the "me" off of contact me on the nav menu, it looks weird. What is your favicon of? I can't tell, I would work on a logo, something simple that is recognizable. In your contact menu area, the text is not aligning with the inputs properly. I would change "telephone number" to just "phone", people will still know what it means. The text in your about me section needs to be changed, about 75 characters is optimal and you have roughly 117. Don't take this the wrong way, but your web designs look like they're from the 90's. I think you should search around and see what is trending and what people want right now because boxy non-responsive websites aren't going to get you much business.

June 27, 201313 yr Author Ive scrapped the idea of it all now it looked orange and horrible on an iphone so Im going to base the new design around my new profile picture logo
