Hi all,

 

Just designed the website for the hotel I work for. I decided to do it for free as I like the job and hey, it's another respected company in my Portfolio! Its pretty much done just the usual code sifting, meta data adding etc but the design work is in place and I 'believe' is compatible in all browsers (Damn you IE8).

 

Would welcome any feedback from a fresh pair of eyes, any thoughts on design, UI or content would be appreciated..

I must admit im not a massive fan of a lot of the work posted on here, but I think you have done a cracking job on this site, so nice one.

 

The main thing that doesn't 'feel' quite right to me is the footer, I think it should keep the same amount of margin from the main container as the header does.

You know, I really hate footers! They seem to be the one task I hate doing on my projects... I guess with it being the 'footer' iv perhaps run out of the steam and motivation you have at the start of the project Maybe I should start doing the footer early on from now...

 

I see what your saying there, kind of looks glued to wrapper.. Im going to edit the css right now and take a look. (dont forget to refresh if you take another look!)

Footers are a pain but are considerably easier if you keep them simple, it sounds logical but a lot of people over complicate them. This site doesn't warrant a large footer or even one the size you currently have, I always see footers as tertiary information and you can therefore display text and buttons slightly smaller with less attention.

 

If you look at the BBC website for example, it's massive in terms of size and complexity, but hugely simplified in the footer.

how about a reversed footer? grey background (same grey as the header text) mwith white text? or the darker of the champagne kind of background e.g. #E9DBC0

 

also the main white content area could maybe do with a bit more margin above and belowe so it doesn't sit so close to the header and the footer (though if footer is diffferent colour then it would be ok=

Yep that does it for me, information is easy to find and relevant.

 

Couple of points:

 

The breadcrumb trail, eg accomodation - deluxe room with sea view isn't obvious, perhaps adding some arrows to indicate it's a breadcrumb trail, and perhaps make a smaller font size?

 

On room detail pages such as /testing/chyan/rooms/deluxe-seaview.html I think it need some sort of call to action for bookings , even if its a simple "Call 01234 56789 to book" under Further details.

Very nice! Simple and light.

Some impressions with the only purpose to be constructive:

1. The first thing I noticed that the site loaded a bit slow for me. I ran a test: 3.1 seconds. This mostly looks like a server performance issue. Not a nice first impression though. The site size and code seems to be well optimized so probably it's really just the hardware.
2. My second thought was that I like the background that I noticed while the images were loading.
3. Than I noticed the arrows on the slider. Everything is so simple and beautifully minimalistic that for me those navigation buttons just break the picture. Would be cool to see them only when I move the mouse over the slider.
4. I'm a frequent traveler. I spend 4 days in hotel every week. The first thing I look for on a hotel website is gallery especially photos of guestrooms. I was happy to see accommodation section on the home page, but first I looked for it in the menu. It wasn't clear for me that I need to click accommodation to find photos. I'm not a native English speaker, so perhaps it's just me.
5. The "Reservations" menu item and the "Book your stay" buttons don't seem to work. Clicking them brings me to the top of the page but nothing else happens. I use Chrome.
6. The font you use on the front page slider looks strange on white background. There seems to be no outline for the font.
7. You have 3 "Learn more" buttons on the home screen. They don't come in line for me. The one under "BESPOKE WEDDINGS" appears lower than the others.

Sorry if I'm too picky.

a beautiful and simple design, providing the comfort of the user. Maybe you should add functions to right-sitebar , final you should also give the user know how the price of room.

I would change your menu a little bit.

You have the tab contact in both menus, maybe a little bit too much

 

On the contact page, by your social media, the images ain't sharp to me. Maybe find some better image for that.

It's hard to make a nice and smooth website with a lot of content.
