I'm looking for music website design...

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm designing my first site, for my rock band...have you any site that can inspire me?

What kind of rock band? Your design may be different if your in a Cradle of Filth type band compared to say, I don't know (thinking of an Italian band...) - Lacuna Coil. You're spoilt for choice if your a Manowar tribute act. Broadswords, dragons, etc... marvellous ;)

Thank you Teodora!

4li4s, you're right, our music is near the System of a Down sound but the lyrics are in in italian (inspired by our alternative-rock band like Teatro degli Orrori, Verdena...)

SOAD? Do you have a link to your stuff yet? :D I'm a big fan. Scars on Broadway too.

Well, first point of contact would be roadrunnerrecords.com but having just checked their site after such a long time, I'd give that a miss. Very generic now. Aside from looking up bands that you like/that inspire you, one suggestion (as obvious as it sounds - apologies!) is to get have some sort of inspiration by the themes of your songs. For example, Rage Against the Machine never really had your typical image. A literal example would be System of Down use political statements to reinforce their message - be it stats, stock photography from political conflicts or art that represents oppression.

It's just food for thought. As long as the design is relevant and not too literal. I'm a grunge fan but if I was in a grunge band still, the worst thing would be to have a background texture of plaid and a cliche of smashed up guitars ;) You need something that makes a statement that compliments your actual bands statement :D

If I come across any links, I'll post some later on.

Hey, You should try ColorlyMedia․com it's perfect for band websites.

Looks like they were inspired by Grayden http://www.graydenpoper.com/

@4li4s

Thank you very much!! I'm not a designer , I like to write the code,
but I'm trying to learn the basic rule to build a working site..

Yes,
we release an album a year ago, i can't post link but you can find us
searching 'Indastria' on fb (or adding indastriabook in the url), I hope
you enjoy our music :)

Fair enough :) You could always get a template of sorts in terms of design. Not something I've done myself (I'd like to think I'm in the designer camp) but it might be a good start to build your coding on.

I'll have a look for your band and let you know what I think later on :)

Designing band websites is a blast, it's always very enjoyable because you can put a lot of creativity in it. Mainly because you are working with people who are creative themselves.

But since you're looking to code it, you could infact do what 4li4s said, and get a template, there are a ton of good music templates on the web. though most of them are allready "based". HTML and CSS is usually allready done when you download them. because well.. otherwise it's not a template. more an ikea project of a design.

if you want to pick up the designing as well, here's what you could do.

For your music you are no doubt inspired by famous bands around the world. And their influences are most likely audible in your music.

Why wouldnt you reflect that into your website? Show the influences of their music into your website. Look at their websites, and get some inspiration from them.

or album covers they are a good way too.

@Marv - did you do Karaburan back in 2010? If so, I'm very impressed :D

@Tieskevo - "more an ikea project of a design". I'm going to use this with clients when they say their nephew can make a website for a packet of crisps and a Ribena ;)

design with [sPAM WEBSITE] . the best web design company India.

They are? Well, Marv; there's an option for you...

Thank you very much guys!!

A template is a cms, right? like wordpress?

@4li4s, Yes, Karaburan is the first song we ever recorded, with some friends!

A template can be used with a CMS such as WordPress, Joomla! etc... but you don't necessarily need a CMS. You could try somewhere like http://themeforest.net/. Like I said in an earlier post, I haven't used a site template myself, only a handful of plugins, but it might be a place to start.

Well, thumbs up for the track - I love it :D Look forward to hearing more stuff!

Use TemplateMonster or Smashing Magazine.

I would also suggest to design your header in a fancy flash design, Because most music website I've been to had an attractive nice flash header! (Just a suggestion)

Good luck with your search.

I am italian and i love SOAD, so i looking forward to ear your music :D

Thank you for the suggestion, but I can't use flash :\

Dude, some pointers:

1. Dont use flash unless its an absolute must!

2. Use a cms. It will be much easier for the band to update and add whatever they need whether its an events page, or a music page, whatever the needs are, wordpress and other cms's provide so much functionality.

3. You can either use a template, or you can use a skelton wordpress theme if you wanted to really get stuck into it. Imo a theme from Themeforest.net are normally pretty good.

4. Please make the music player have its own pop up. I never understand why bands have music players on the page, because when users browse the site the player reloads - which is butt annoying.

5. Best of luck! :D
