January 5, 201313 yr So i have spent longer on this site than i ever have done with any work, and im still in design stages. I think its because i haven't worked with this type of client before so the style is very different, Had a lot of issues picking font, choosing layout, but i think im happy now, Although it doesn't mean i don't need criticisms, We all need criticisms, I have only designed the index page but would love some feedback. www.jayharrisofficial.com Thanks in advance
January 6, 201313 yr So i have spent longer on this site than i ever have done with any work, and im still in design stages. *cough *cough *cough In all seriousness, I think you're doing a great job here. I do have a few suggestions as I had no idea what to expect when I visited this site: #1. I thought "Jay Harris" was a photographer at first. I couldn't figure out why he was taking so many photos of this one woman. This is coming from a guy who has a female name. I mean, my name is "Courtney" so I can see how other people would be confused. #2. I really, really, really, recommend a very clear tagline or subhead that indicates this woman is a professional model. Yes, I know you already have this one: "Welcome to my Official Website and Professional Modelling Portfolio." But it wasn't visible to me in the first few seconds on the blog. I really had no idea what this website was. When I scrolled down I was wondering how in the world this was affiliated with PlayBoy? I thought maybe he was a photographer. #3. The slideshow. I guess, maybe it isn't finished. But I click on the pictures and go nowhere. The little pictures pop up and that is weird. I'm not quite sure how to navigate this site if it isn't by clicking pictures. #4. I just think you are seriously underutilizing the header area. I mean, some indication that this isn't a nudie website or a photographers website up in the header area with a sentence or tagline would be great. #5. I know she's probably supposed to be famous. But I have no idea who she is. Perhaps, more proof that she is famous, "as seen in PlayBoy", "CNN", or whatever talkshows. If I was trying to get her more gigs then that "proof" would simply have to be in the header area. If this was my own client I wouldn't start advertising this website if I wanted results without that kind of proof easily and clearly visible plastered all over this website. #6. It is a very simple layout and that is great. But it is far from obvious what she does or is. Or how to hire her. Or if she is for hire. I do not see a call to action to call her or take action in any way. #7. Contact information should be obvious and readily accessible. If she wants to get more gigs. You know, maybe she has so many that she doesn't even have to try. But it's hard to know. I don't know how easy work is to get for models. It might be easier than in other industries. In which case, maybe a ripped out picture from PlayBoy updloaded as a PDF with the words CALL MY AGENT AT: PHONE NUMBER is all she needs. I don't really know. January 6, 201313 yr Author Cheers for the feedback, the images in the slider are not supposed to be linked up anywhere. it is just a graphic slider. I think the tag line is a good idea, i will look at putting that into the whitespace in the header somehow. in respect of contact there is a Get in Touch page, linked but not built and all social media integrated. Thanks for your feedback Cheers
January 6, 201313 yr Author Wanted more photos tbh Am in the process of Googling her now HAha not the kind of reviews i was after tbh, Im working on her portfolio now. keep posted

Thanks for your feedback Cheers No problem, always willing to help. I have a different way of looking at websites than most website designers do. In part, because when I build a website it has to make money or it's a complete failure. I have seen some really ugly websites work well... The good news is that the odds are in your favour here... She definitely attracts attention.
January 7, 201313 yr Yeah, its not bad, but the header has a lot of empty space that could be used with contact numbers or even a tweet area or something. The boxs text needs more padding. Its right to the edge of the box. In her bio, the outgoing links should be nofollow. I'm sure playboy etc have plenty of link juice without you giving them some too

Craig
January 7, 201313 yr I Agree with the above, the header is unnecessarily empty. Its too big IMO. Use it for some social stuff, maybe a rolling tweets feed. Decent image across the top of her laying down or something thats not just white space. Also the images for the portfolio are looking pretty low res :/ Craig. Edited January 7, 201313 yr by Lovelock
January 7, 201313 yr What is this no follow, i am not famillier with it, i pretty much get what it means, Back links right? Yeah, basically its saying to google "Although Ihave linked to this site I do not 'vote' that it is worthy in anyway". Its mainly done to increase page rank, but thats a whole 'nother thread. box's text, are you talking about all of it or just the drop down paragraph? cus thats on my todo list, Yeah the hover over text. yeah She doesnt want contact numbers on there, and tweet has it own page - which has a problem, if you click the get social link you will see my issue which is just giving me a headache, Yeah I did notice it, but as Craig says a nice rolling single twitter feed would fill that area up nicely and do really well at helping gain twitter followers as its in fantastic 'real estate' and people can see it in real time, without the need for them to go to a page. For an example check mine out on my personal website above the footer, but below the content. In your case though obviously it would need to be styled to your website. I can help with that code if you need, just let me know. Thanks for your feedback. Happy to help Craig Answers in red Decent image across the top of her laying down or something thats not just white space. That is a great idea too. Maybe even combine the image with the single twitter feed? Aww so jealous I dont have a porn star to make a website for haha! <3 Edited January 7, 201313 yr by jamesosix
January 7, 201313 yr Aww so jealous I dont have a porn star to make a website for haha! <3 Yeah, I want my own filthy client too! the closest I came to it was a model who did event stuff (you know , standing around looking pretty at trade shows and stuff). I was just at the signing contract stage when she told me that her friends boyfriends friend etc makes web sites and she wants to give the business to someone she knows (plus this guy would have done it for about a tenth of my fee - funny that eh?)

Answers in red That is a great idea too. Maybe even combine the image with the single twitter feed? Aww so jealous I dont have a porn star to make a website for haha! <3 Come on guys we know this all goes on Google. Not a Porn star and not a filthy client, a professional glamour model. Although all your feedback is greatly appreciated. I think i will have a look at putting a different header in, i know what you mean, although im seeing an increasing amount of websites that use whitespace as popular content? Dont you agree? Thanks all again. Craig
January 7, 201313 yr I suppose "filthy client" was a bit strong. Maybe I should have said "glamor model" or "fit women" client (saying that I did have a fit women client once, she was a personal trainer who got the right hump and walked away in a huff when I said I couldn't build her a full CMS driven site, with a custom theme and brand new logo for £100.... )

Maybe they should visit one of these "Wordpress Designers" that click the install button for £50.00

January 8, 201313 yr Author I thought i would come back to this, and get back on topic. With your feedback i have decided to put a facebook activity plugin in the header, I am new to whole social integration stuff, and what i would like to do is just make it so it's a visible list, so remove the footer and the borders, does anyone know where i can find a tutorial for this? or someone who has done this before who can possibly advise Cheers
January 8, 201313 yr The Facebook plugin needs some margin at the bottom. As for removing the borders, couldn't you do that on Facebook Dev Page where I'm assuming you retrieved it?. It's being controlled by... .fbConnectWidgetTopmost { border: 1px solid #AAA; border-top-color: #315C99; overflow: hidden; padding: 0; position: relative; } Which is being pulled from their own source so maybe you could force-alter it. As for the rest of the website... I'm not a fan of the gradient affect used in the title nor the drop shadow on "official". The third and fifth images in the slider are quite poor in terms of image quality. I don't like the use of a serif font in this sort of context. The social media and home icons on the top bar are quite obtrusive, I would personally make them a little smaller and maybe use psuedo selector to add colour when hovered. The subtites on the left menu should be more central. I do like the use of the subtle hover animations and women love a sparkle so that's good. Oh, and one thing your missing, a link for her to pay visit to this heart-warming community I hope this information helps.

I have no idea how to do this. It wasnt in the options in the developer tools. where the plugin was created. As for the rest of the website... I'm not a fan of the gradient affect used in the title nor the drop shadow on "official". As i have adapted the website i have gone off the logo, looked good at the start, but colours have changed content installed... etc. i will look at this. The third and fifth images in the slider are quite poor in terms of image quality. Noted and some images will be changed, I don't like the use of a serif font in this sort of context. I had so many issues with the font i tried many out and this one seemed to fit ok, Do you have a suggestion? The social media and home icons on the top bar are quite obtrusive, I would personally make them a little smaller and maybe use psuedo selector to add colour when hovered. Already on my todo list, wasnt going to make them smaller, but i will give it a go The subtites on the left menu should be more central. Do you mean the menu headings or the actual links? I do like the use of the subtle hover animations and women love a sparkle so that's good. Oh, and one thing your missing, a link for her to pay visit to this heart-warming community Would love to but due to previous comments that wont be possible. haha I hope this information helps. Great feedback. Thank you very much. Craig
