I am working for someone who would like to set up a goods for cash site, for example someone wants to get rid of their old goods where they tell us what it is, what condition its in, they send it to us, and based on what condition it is in, we give them a price.

 

I think that its the same basis as an ecommerce website except the price isn't determined until we independently review the product and then pay them, but the person I'm working for doesn't think so.

 

My question is, can anyone in this community recommend any software that would be ideal? The nearest I've got is cash for gold software.

You're looking to create a very very bespoke service. The likelihood of there being software out there that does what you're asking is pretty much nil. You need a custom developed solution.

 

I also take issue with the business plan. You're expecting people to have to send you the item, at expense and time and effort, to you for you to look at BEFORE you tell them how much it's worth? Sorry but that's rubbish, nobody will bother. You should ask them to send pictures of the item through the website.

 

You're essentially creating a quote system. That should be fairly simple to do via php but I do think it needs to be bespoke.

Thanks for the reply. regarding send the item at expense, no, the guy does this offline and either ebay or amazon at the moment and I believe he as a freepost setup. Basically the cash for is niche so theres only a few items. As for the valuation part of the deal, the price is agreed, but the actual payout is done when the item is inspected to confirm that the person the other end was telling the truth.

 

The best comparison I can think of is Musicmagpie.com that has been on the tv quite a lot recently.

@ Mike - customers sending in their goods for valuation is very common... I find it hard to believe but people actually do, and it's big business (pawnbroking).

 

@Deb - you'll find that services like Music Magpie will have entirely bespoke systems in place to work out quotes. They probably use a database with a lot of variables which are matched and a price calculated using some sort of algorythym.
