I've been making a portfolio for a friend of mine over the last 2 days or so and would like some feedback. All i've got done so far is the main layout and the gallery bit. Any constructive criticism would be very useful!

Nice typography, overall very clean - only thing that really stands out to me to change is the background colour of the top banner, as it blends to much with the overall background rather than standing out from it.

Change your navigation its a bit plain and keep the nav in style with the BG

Yeah this is just one of the portfolio pages, the index page will be an about page with links to this page.

It's a nice clean and simple design, I like it. The nav links break out onto 2 lines if I increase the text size in my browser, so you may want to fix that. Other than that my only other beef is that I have to really squint to see the footer navigation links.

Update: I've changed the two banners to a ligher colour to provide some contrast to the background and created a home page. Any comments and constructive criticism would be much appreciated.

I think the only improvement to make would be changing the navigation to something more styled like tabs or something.

Not that I don't appreciate the criticism but I honestly think that people are seeing the simplicity of the design and putting it down to a lack of web design skills. I'd just like to point out that I purposely kept the design subtle so as to not draw the eye away from the design work of my client. I whole heartedly agree that if this were a blog or a convetional website then it might be a little bit too simple but for a portfolio I think it fits the bill, and more importantly my client absolutely loves it!

 

Also J.P I'm liking the Inbetweeners avatar, I honestly think it's the best thing I've seen on TV in months. I'd place it way above Skins >_>.

why did u give the blank space lots on front page. and pages missing that is not available ... you have more works on ur site. Try finish and fix those bugs.

Love the overall look of the site, I think its clean, fresh and very well balanced. The only thing I don't like is the main navigation, it seems like an after thought and doesn't feel as slick and polished as the rest of the site, really it feels a bit heavy. So maybe have a play around with the size and weight of it, just to give it a more polished look

I like your new navigation. You might wanna try to run the line you have to right all the way to the left also. So that it feels like that entire page falls under that tab.

Ok, maybe I've a screw loose, ok definitely I've a screw loose.

 

The page looks wonky.

 

It looks like it leans to the right by a few pixels :S

 

It's something to do with the combination of the rounded corners on the bottom of the header and the skewiff photo plus the extra weight given the the right-hand-side by the menu.

 

I would get rid of the rounded corners and stretch the red bar out ... and maybe add a bit more padding around the photo - that should fix the distortion effect.

 

It's a beautiful design though. I like it

Made the page less "wonky" . Also Dizi I tried your technique for loading the images but it was a hastle as they're sliding door tabs. I did however come up with another way, I just made two new divs in the document and styled them to be 1px by 1px and to hide the overflow. Probably not as semantic as your method but a lot easier I guess. Thanks all the same though .

I really like the colors and site in general, but i would love to see an index page. it will bring the lil something missing
