Hi, does anyone know of a free or cheap font service like Google web Fonts (http://www.google.com/webfonts)?

 

I'm finding that Google Web Fonts only works well in IE and not Firefox and Chrome (in other words the fonts are not as crisp, because the browsers don't support the fonts).

 

Is type kit the best? and how do people find it?

fontsquirrel.com although I'm very surprised the Google ones aren't working in Chrome!

Chrome is ****e at rendering fonts full stop as it uses the Windows font rendering engine without any of the advances smoothing.

No matter what service you use it won't make a difference.

That's a shame. You would think they would do something about it being the most popular browser at the moment.

 

Is there any reason why Firefox is bad as well?

 

Here's the link. When I view it, only IE smooths the font. Let me know if you see it differently.

Firefox is smoothing it fine for me - it has one of the best font rendering engines of any browser. Could you post a screenshot, along with what OS you're using it on?

 

You could also try:

 

body {
-webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased;
font-smooth: always;
}

If that is the case, then this is a bit weird, because Chrome looks better than Firefox on this screenshot.

 

Although saying that, I must point out that Chrome is not handling all the fonts on that site as well.

 

I'm using a 64-bit operating system.

Hit about:config in your address bar and type: gfx.font_rendering in the search bar at the top. Any values changed from default?
