what other strategies can be used in regards to driving traffic to a blog?

 

I have a web designing portfolio, where i also have a blog section.

How can i get users to interact with my blog and start getting feedback and comments?

I've tried reddit, but that community is so hard to get into lol people take everything as spam

There isn't a "way" to make people leave comments. If they have something valuable to add, then they will. You need to get your blog out there. I assume you're using your portfolio to attract clients, but trying to us your blog to get comments. Potential clients won't leave feedback or comments, they'll get in touch with you.

 

Promote your blog. Go beyond reddit et al. Get on Facebook, Twitter, Google +. Get talking to other designers. Twitter is brilliant for that

Like Jason said, if you build lists then your have a fan base which should return and comment if the need is there for the visitor but at the same time the lists should build the more engaging your content is.

 

Now if you have all the social stuff Jason pointed out on your blog as well giving any visitor a clear route, so no distractions such as adsense etc those who want to will jump on your lists.

 

If you then start to guest blog on active websites (you can see this from the activity on sharing tools and there own facebook & twitter following), and really focus on optimising your byline to push users through to your blog depending on the content the activity you require will happen.

You should not only consider increasing the traffic to your site, but also consider keeping the visitors stay on the page. As per my experience, SEO is the best and cheapest way to get visitors over the site, other methods are paid marketing PPC but It's little costely.

To attract more visitors we should create a attractive content for our website and than try some hand on social media for brand prmotion.

Let me present some points to drive traffic:

- After on page optimization, you have build good back links for your site.

- Provide Good quality content in your site

- Trying to get good back-links from authority sites might increase the traffic.

- using social media is good

- Advertising the product is till more better

You forget about the smo which is free of cost to get traffic for site and we can use social networking sites to get more traffic for site. I agree with you that PPC is best but it is paid and for short term.
