Hi all, first post!

So I'm well aware that my graphic design skills leave a lot to be desired, and I'd love to hear all your input as to what I can tweak on the site to improve it/whether it needs a complete overhaul!

I won't give you any preconceptions as to what I was going for with the design for the time being, so here's the URL...

http://www.friendswithrooms.com - no need to be gentle!

Welcome to the forum!

Right let's get started...

Everything seems a bit overzealous, especially the drop shadows. Harsh drop shadows are very 90's so I'd soften them up a bit.

Something's not right with the colour scheme either, it all seems a bit 'drab'.

I like the attitude you're exuding so don't change that!

Elements on the page need more padding, certain items (room photos, Facebook stuff) is very squeezed to the edges.

Not a fan of that font, it's over used.

I also tried to check it in the W3C's validator but it refused to!

Thanks, great points :). I'm feeling that the whole thing is moving towards a complete overhaul but I'm not convinced I'm going to be able to do it justice!

£1500 a week for a spare room, wow

Well, quite! It's mad what people think they can achieve from Olympics rentals

Nah! These are just small things.

Work through them bit at a time and you'll have them done no worries, especially as you now have us to point you in the right direction!

Tell me about it, up until a year ago i lived in one of the Olympic boroughs and let me tell you, it's unlikely i'd be able to rent there now!

Yeah I was thinking that too :) For a room!!! Not being funny if you can afford £78,000 (NET!) per year you'll probably do better than just a room that looks tiny!

Maybe the girl it belongs to is fit?

You should give it the kisstagram effect, that way you'll make millions if you take a cut ;)

[i do not endorse the above comments]

It's not the room, it's the postcode... stupid really considering the next postcode along is a hell hole and about ten times cheaper.

I'm getting an application error...

Application Error

An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. Please try again in a few moments.

If you are the application owner, check your logs for details.

Yeah still getting the error. Looks server side, but tried on Chrome and Firefox on both a mac and PC to make sure and still the same

It's working now :)

Agree with what was said about really, with the drop shadows. You could style the drop down at the bottom too to fit in with the colour scheme

Nowhere near enough emphasis on the rooms themselves. Tiny little thumbnails won't give anyone a feel for the place.

When you find a room where you share a friend with the person that posted it, you see much more. There aren't a huge amount of listings atm, but a surprising amount of people can see at least one - if you log in you might be lucky!

The log in with Facebook box takees up far more room than it needs to and the Latest Listings are poorly laid out. The visual prominence of elements should be directly related to their importance. For the latest listings, that means photo, location, price. Everything else is fluff that should be saved for a detail page. The thumbnail takes up less than a tenth of the listing and the price is on there twice.

Fair points, thanks :) Will put that on the todo list

Small layout changes just put live - thoughts?
