I currently run a small UK website:website. Currently I edit it under Dreamweaver. It has a cheap hosting package which has no MySQL databases which has been OK up to now.

 

The problem is its getting a bit unwieldy, especially with the menus, and I can't see any way to make it easier without installing a CMS. I've installed XAMPP and Joomla on my desktop which I'm just about getting the hang of.

 

The question is have I made the right decision with Joomla and does anyone know a template that would fit with the current design of the site?

Your design and IA look like they'd be very easy to convert to a WordPress theme, though.

Yeah WordPress would suite yours perfectly. You could use the blog posts for your news which you could surface the latest story on the homepage, the rest as standard pages. You could use contact-form-7 plugin for your contact page and i'm sure there's a guestbook plugin and photo gallery plugin.

 

You could also step away from it a bit by giving key people access to write news for you, like your local sport team coaches or village council members etc.

I did look at Wordpress but it didn't seem to be as fully featured as Joomla. I'm still open to ideas so I'll give it another look. I don't want to spend a lot of time learning something then find I've been barking up the wrong tree.

I agree, it was something I had thought about although the Parish council have their own site. Mine is more targeted at heritage.

Im currently doing some voluntary work to build up my CV and its at a community centre but they're creating a website for the area by using joomla. It can be very annoying. You edit one thing, click save then theres random spaces etc and the actual site looks different.

Well I've installed WordPress. It looks like it will do what I want but does anyone know a good template that will replace the current site? I don't even mind paying for one if it saves me time.

 

Looks like it will take me forever to create one myself.
