firefox stalling alot in Vista

Featured Replies

Have you guys had trouble with FF and Vista? My FF hangs so much with Vista.

That'll be the well-known Vista-is-a-piece-of-sh!t bug. You can solve it by applying the Windows XP patch.

I've used Vista since the Beta stages and I've not had any problems with Firefox. Have you got add-ons installed? If so, try to disable all of them and enable them one by one in order to identify the possible culprit.

Are you also running Windows Defender?

your problem is that you're running Vista, please upgrade to Windows XP

Telling people to install a different OS isn't helpful. And it's not Vista that's the problem here. My own and all the other machines I've used that run Vista has been working fine. People's mileage varies. This whole "upgrade to previous Windows version" has been said every time a new Windows has been released. Personally I find Vista to be the least troublesome yet to date.

So how about we focus on trying to find the real cause?

I have been running Vista Ultimate 64 and Vista Business 32, I have found that FF does stall on business 32 but not on U64, not quite sure why but I expect that its an add on problem as already mentioned. Annoying as hell though.

I'm using FF RC1 now and it's working wonderfully. :tv17::flm16::flm7:

I hate Vista it may look pretty but all the problems that come with it annoy me to no end. I wasted a couple of grand buying a new computer last year and it came with Vista by default-I asked for a "downgrade" to XP but they said it would cost even more. In the end I bought it with Vista thinking I would get used to it, but here I sit still using my XP laptop and the computer hasn't been touched in months (by me anyway-the computer illiterate hubby has decided to use it)

I haven't had problems with any browsers on my Vista Basic installation... I can run FF, IE7, Safari, and Flock all at the same time and none of them are sluggish / buggy. :\

WOW, I don't think Vista is that bad to not use a new computer at all. Did you install SP1? That did help a little. Though it blue screened on the first reboot though. Did you hear that freaking Microsoft is planning Windows 7 now. I say they fix Vista first then they worry about another freaking operating system. Gee wiz!

I can't see people's problems with Vista, I really can't. Surely they're not still using the "there's no drivers" because there are plenty now and most companies are developing for Vista alongside XP. I've read so many times people saying that Vista is slow, buggy etc etc - 99% of the time I've found that they've upgraded their OS but, somehow, forgot to upgrade their hardware - it's a new OS and is quite memory hungry (especially to run 100% smooth). I've literally had no problems in months of use with my latest computer.

This isn't a dig at you directly Goldstein as you might have some weird problem I've never come across - the whole argument of people slating Vista winds me up though... :)

I think it was more a problem with FF2 than Vista. FF2 was had a huge memory leak and I thought I plugged it but maybe I didn't. Now that I'm using FF3 RC1 I'm not having any problems beside the fact that my Better Gmail plugin is turning off here and there and my GMail html sig is disappearing. But that's more of an annoyance than anything else

Your problem is that you're running Vista, please upgrade to Windows XP

lol, no kidding! :pp

I have a client with 2 laptops both running vista.

1st machine can see a flash file, the other can't (both have the same flash v)

2nd machine can see a favicon I put on their site, the other can't.

I have no idea what the problem(s) can be!

No it isnt really that bad but it is annoying and I just don't like it or want to get used to it-I prefer my XP any day. There's no point returning/selling the computer though as my hubby is learning slowly haha. btw what is SP1? It came with the expensive Vista not the home one..not sure what it was callled

Another version? Wow they are in over their heads!

Oh and another major problem I had with Vista was that my hubby got a new job a few months back and he had to do an online induction. He got paid for it but it went for around 6-7 hours. I loaded the page up for him and got it ready then he sat and did the whole thing in around 8 hours with breaks. At the end he submitted it and it said it went through. A week later his new job still hadnt cleared him so he called them and they said it showed him as still pending..he explained he did the whole test blah blah then they ask "oh what OS are you using because it wont work in Vista"

Thanks for telling us!

Not that that is really Vistas fault-more the company for making a test that doesn't work on the latest computers (and only worked in IE too)

Vista Ultimate is what it's called I'm pretty sure.

Umm... Windows 7 should come out sometime in 2010...

I can't wait! ;):pp

  • 1 year later...
  • 3 weeks later...

mine did this too so i uninstalled a few plugins, cleared the cache.

it seems ok now.

i think it may have been to do with java but i cant be sure.

i have never had a problem with vista and FF ... i have a pentium dual core lappy with 2GB ram and it runs right as rain, my old 512mb single core pentuim also ran quickly on vista

99% of people won't give vista a chance as someone told them its awful .. it takes a few mins to set it up to run like xp (disable the pop up window when you want to run a program) but after the initial tinkering its fine

vista was built to be security concious, rather than the open "come get me" xp... i could never go back to xp after using vista... when ever i have to use my dad's pc / a client's pc,(xp), I'm always like ok where is everything lol
