Hi,

I recently started to work as a freelance web designer after working with a design agency for 3 years. I have recently got my own site running, it is still in development - there are a few typo's and similar things. I would really like to get your feedback as to how I can improve the design of the site.

Thanks.

Well, the design of the site would be down to the theme developer http://themeforest.net/item/blaze-premium-portfolio-wordpress-theme/411736 so can't really comment on a design you did'nt do.

You may also want to change the phone number placeholder as its still the template default

what roothost said.

If you are a freelance designer, at least custom design your own page. Just saying.

Also.. I can always spot a wordpress theme a mile away because it often has too much functionality that is properly needed like needless lists, useless dropdowns, extra pages for no reason.

If you want to design your own theme, I have a beta of my Vanilla Kit that I have turned into a WP theme for you (no design, just flat code and base CSS to get started). Let me know because it isn't available yet from my site.

But please... think out site features and please PLEASE do you own design.

LOL I think I'm getting the hang of this now. I looked at it and I thought, "Hmmmm, that looks like a wordpress theme. Maybe I shouldn't say anything, just in case it isn't...". I come back and look at the responses and BAM! you guys sniffed it out :p Now all I need to do is learn how to identify the exact theme and I'll be able to call myself a real contributor to WDF ^_^

Lol, its simple. Visit the website in question, view source and look for the stylesheet link. Default wordpress link is /wp-content/themes/theme-name/style.css

Just google the theme name and you find the original.

I can't believe people are still doing this.

The typography is awful on Chrome btw, horrible jagged edges.

I think you have your feedback Ben, but it might not be what you wanted to hear!

Sometimes even good designers use templates as a basis for a site. The error you made was asking for critique on here when it wasn't your own work.

When I read the part about you working in an agency for 3 years and now setting up yourself as a freelancer I was hoping for so much more.

Maybe you could post a few other examples of your work to give us a better idea of what you are about, stuff you have made from scratch or maybe even collaborated on (tell us what part you had in the project if it is a collaboration work)

Regards

I'd say it's unacceptable to use another person's design for your site if you are a web designer. I can understand if you are a graphic designer or illustrator without solid web design knowledge, but since you are presenting yourself as a web expert and your portfolio site is vastly better than your work, you are really just coming across as dishonest and shady. A customer probably won't notice the difference, so if they hire you based on the design of your portfolio site (which would be a lack of due diligence on their part, but that's beside the point) you have successfully got paid client work while misrepresenting your ability.

Take it down, design your own site. Even if it's something simple to serve as a placeholder portfolio until you can really create something great that will be fine.

I've got to go with what the others have said really.

I say it time and time again on here, we will not review templates unless it's the template author asking.
