Installing Analytics Tracking

Featured Replies

Hey peeps,

So I'd like to install getclicky.com tracking on a site which is built on asp.net but only know how to do this on html files.

On the server there are:

.aspx files - which i gather are similar to an html file

.bak files - which i assume i ignore as they're just backups(?)

.cs files - files written in c# which i haven't got a clue about

.cs.exclude and other .exclude files - which i think means they are just excluded from the backup(?)

and then obviously xml docs, stylesheets etc which I'm ok with!

So say I've got all these files for the index page:

index.aspx

index.aspx (bak)

index.aspx.cs

index.aspx.cs (bak)

Would I only put the tracking code onto the index.aspx file? Ignoring the backup... and the c# stuff.

Some clarity would be seriously appreciated! =)

hello, you should only put the tracking script in the main file that is loaded when you view the page in this case index.aspx as far as im aware, i dont use getclicky i use google analytics but they are most likely working along the same lines

I'm tracking with Google Analytics as well, GetClicky can give you a bit more insight into what users are actually doing on your site though which is why I'm testing it out =)

fair enough for testing it out although i wouldnt particularly like to spend my something on something that would seem pointless to myself like, just out of curiousity how much is getclicky ?

Get Clicky has near real time stats (< 5 min) and it also has a 'spy' feature where you can see what's happening on your site when it happens which should be pretty interesting for analyzing user behaviour. It's got some other useful stuff like Twitter analytics too.

If someone could actually help answer my question that would be :good:

Why would you need to know exactly what the user is doing in real time? That sort of data would be redundant, as you're only sampling such a tiny pool of data. You can track user behaviour using Google analytics's, and sure it doesn't have a similar 'spy' feature, I just don't think that it would be needed as you should only make changes based upon a large data sample that allows for a wide varied amount of uses

Look there's a free trial and I just wanted to give it a go, I'm using Google Analytics as well, can someone please answer my question as I'd really like to understand how to do this. I assume I just put the tracking on all the main .aspx files but I just wanted some clarity. Thanks.

Relax lol :) People are simply pointing out that there's a reason Analytics is pretty much the industry standard for tracking.

I know, but I'd still like to know the answer!

Cheers

yes. Just put it in the files that will be accessed. I assume a user won't be getting to the bak files nor the cs files.
