alexandra reacted to LYKC in Help previewing asp .net site designDefinitely try to setup your local IIS server and have it running locally. Google it, there's loads of walk throughs. But if you really can't set it up and you're only doing small changes, you're probably better off making edits on live.
Another, fractionally better way to do it, is to save the entire live website via Scrapbook, then edit the HTML/CSS using Firebug. Note down your changes and apply to the live stylesheet.
But as has been mentioned, the best way is to set up a local instance of the website via a local server. Hassle at first, but will save you a lot of time moving forwards

alexandra reacted to zed in Installing Analytics Trackingyes. Just put it in the files that will be accessed. I assume a user won't be getting to the bak files nor the cs files.

Not sure whether that has anything to do with it?
It doesn't work either? I'm guessing you're aware of this

alexandra reacted to chtyrone in AJAX featureExcellent.
Absolutely love the price range slider.
Haven't seen anything like it before.
Great idea.
Not too sure about the actual car spec boxes.
The autotrader model is hard to beat.
Car men usually have set views on what they want to know/see.
Also, you need to list the exact options chosen on the top of the results screen.
I'm looking at a list of cars and I have no idea what search options I chose.

alexandra reacted to asek in AJAX featureStats by W3Schools in 2008 say 5% don't use it, but that is based on the people browsing their site I assume. This would bias the conclusion as you would expect more "web designers/computer competent) people browsing their site.
For a mainstream like your own I'm not sure how much importance you would place on javascript accessibility. Note that the desktop facebook requires javascript to work, however they do have a mobile version.
Hope it helps

alexandra reacted to zed in AJAX featureI wouldn't worry about it. if people are going to consciously turn off JS in their browser then that is there look out and should expect sites not to work. Have a look at moneysupermarket.com I doubt Peter Jones cares that his site needs JS to work properly.
Worst case scenario, stick a nojavascript message up on the page and tell them they are being stupid. There's always going to be an anal percentage who don't like this or don't like that. The more pandering they get the more they love it.

alexandra reacted to zed in AJAX featuretried it on Win7 IE8, FF3.6.12, Chrome 7.0.517.44 and couldn't see any problems. There was only a slight delay/stuttering if you fanny around with the slider and the page is still being updated with the results.
As for Mac, I doubt there will be any issue apart from the experience costing you more and having a certain smugness about yourself while doing it

alexandra got a reaction from asek in Help me choose a new monitorI've got two Samsung P2450s (24 inch, about £170).
Have been fine for what I use them for, though have spotted one dead pixel!

alexandra reacted to asek in Criticise my site!Like the others said, nice site. You wanted some critisims so here goes:
I assume the black areas are for ads, I think the header ad makes the logo area a bit cluttered, maybe make it smaller.
If you search with no term, the resulting error text needs more line-spacing or maybe decrease the font size.
Use hover state on links, such as footer and on homepage.
Hover state on buttons.

But then i realised. Maybe make it you have to click to open the menu using javascript? Very nice website thoe! Impressed loads
