March 6, 201115 yr Hey all, I want a little feedback on the new site design for my design company. This is my third draft (first two I wasn't too happy with). I quite like this more than all other drafts. To make it easier on you to view as a site, I created a captured-preview to the template which you can view by clicking the link below: http://sazzadhossain.org/portfolio/revolutionize/ With this second page, I'm not happy with the header. It just doesn't look attractive. My friend suggested that I use the same stitched text effect on the "About Us" as on Design, develop, engineer; but I don't want to end up making a new image for all pages (since the font is close to a vector than a font). I will work on more pages but I think before I continue some feedback from designers are better. You can be kind or harsh; it's all okay with me as long as you're being honest.
March 6, 201115 yr Wow! I love that. My only concern would be the lack of colour and the design. To me it would make a great upholstery company or a stitching company due to the stitch borders round it. These are only my opinions, im not digging it. I really do like the design and layout of it.
March 6, 201115 yr Author My idea with this design is to show that we stitch our work << catchy phrase right?. By "we stitch our work" I mean that we put our full attention to every single detail, every thread, every line. Making sure you get what you want. Also I wanted to move out of the traditional design company look, that's why I chose that color and that style in general. Any feedback on the "About Us" header on the second page? Also I wanted to move out of the traditional design company look, that's why I chose that color and that style in general. Any feedback on the "About Us" header on the second page? That that I know your design point behind it, I like it more. However, the only trouble with that is that will other people get that from it? Don't get me wrong, the design is nice, and I would be proud to be able to do that. Edit: I like that the 'About Us' heading has a slight different design element, such as a thinner bg and not a thick area like the homepage. Maybe a nice font there using cufon or some other font replacement technique such as sIFR?
March 6, 201115 yr Author I was thinking about that but I just don't like the text there at all. Someone suggested I center the text instead of left align, but I'm not really sure how that will turn out. I'm thinking about adding some slogans to the logo and on the home page to make that concept clear. I just haven't gotten too much time to spend on it. I think I spent about an hour or two on those two pages (from start to finish). So it's not in the greatest shape.

Just a quick mock up, but why not have a page slogan under the about us text?
March 6, 201115 yr Author Wow amazing font! Mind sharing the name? And yes I will have page slogan there (just forgot to put it). Let me try to create a new mockup after I get that font.

March 6, 201115 yr Author Thanks for your feedback cibgraphics. Is there any suggestions you can make for this style to work better for you? Would you recommend I use this design instead? I originally designed it for another client who's looking for something different. Edited March 6, 201115 yr by Sazzad
March 7, 201115 yr My only concern would be the lack of colour and the design. I second that. You'd be better off with that one you posted above unless you can give this one a bit of spiceeey

March 7, 201115 yr Author I quite like the font on the header portion; however the content I understand. When I start coding, I will look for a different styling for that. In fact, I will code both layouts and then compare them side by side. Whichever I like the best I will use. So far for the first design, I have 1 negative comment and 17 positive from 2 forums. Second one seems to be all positive.

March 7, 201115 yr I think it is a bit dark, the text in some areas may be hard to read Overall Good start
March 7, 201115 yr Author I think it is a bit dark, the text in some areas may be hard to read Are you referring to the first design with the stitched text effect? I see your concern there. I will try to lighten it up when I code the layout. Thank you AlecIsh, now I know which one to code first Edited March 7, 201115 yr by Sazzad
March 7, 201115 yr The colors are very depressing and sad. The layout is average at best. That one is a bit better although the typography is an abomination. Lol I don't have a problem with anyone disliking someone's work. But if someone goes out on a limb to ask for criticism so that they can get better at something, posting comments like yours is not at all helpful and somewhat rude. By all means, be honest, but don't dismiss someone's work offhand. If you have the skill and experience to know what's wrong with a piece of work, share it with the community; otherwise what's the point in posting at all? Do you think it makes you look smart or better to say those things? It doesn't. It makes you look arrogant. Edited March 11, 201115 yr by notbanksy

The OP knew that I wasn't being rude but yet somehow you have to be the soldier to come and attack me. Im not going to sugarcoat stuff nor tell him how to do his job. I shouldn't have to tell him how to fix every problem that I see. A designer should be able to do that himself. That is one way in which he can grow and think up solutions for himself. I told him his colors made me depressed and sad. Do I need to tell him to use brighter colors? No, I shouldn't have to. I said his typography was an abomination. Do I have to pick out a font for him? No, I shouldn't have to. As you can see by his posts that he is well aware how to fix a problem (if he agrees it is a problem) once I have offered up my position. I don't treat people like babies telling them everything looks great like I see others here do. That's not going to help anyone. Sorry, not going to do it. If you find that rude... then thats your deal. Not mine.
March 7, 201115 yr That one is a bit better although the typography is an abomination. Lol You could have easily said something like "That one is a bit better but the typography needs a lot of work". Also - and here's an important point, why put "Lol" on the end? What exactly was the point of that? You actually find it necessary to laugh at it? Why? That just conjures up an image of a very arrogant, insecure person. I don't have a problem with anyone disliking someone's work. Well he now has a plus 2 on his comments so make that 3 "soldiers". Or just decent people, if you like. You sir have come across as a superior arrogant git and are now trying to wriggle your way out of it by whining on about this and that in your last post. Face it - your arrogance and superiority has backfired on you. There's a little bit of this going on in this forum from certain members, I've noticed. People who know more than other people "laughing" at them for not knowing as much as they do. There's really no call for it, or are certain web people really just a bunch of arrogant hyper-insecure narcissists? I hope not.

If you find that rude... then thats your deal. Not mine. I agree that nobody grows by being told everything looks great - I hate that. But I don't see the point in posting just to say you hate it; to me, that's just as bad. We're here (in the reviews forum) to learn, right? So what's the point in posting if you're not going to offer anything helpful. You may think he's capable of figuring it out for himself, and you're entitled to your opinion. But I don't think he'd be posting here if he was as full of confidence as you say. I don't find your refusal to pat people on the back rude - I respect it. It's your tone and arrogance that I find rude. Make of it what you will.
March 7, 201115 yr Author I better step in before this gets any further. Thank you all for your concern and suggestions. Thank you notbanksy for the post. It does show you care about members on this forum. However, I did request users to be honest and speak their mind and I will gladly take comments in any way possible. I have worked with clients for many years now and I have faced clients who do speak openly; thus,I know how to manage . cibgraphics, notbanksy is also right with one matter. Just stating you don't like the colors doesn't really make it a great feedback. As a designer you should know that everyone has different taste in colors. Just because this color makes you depressed does not mean it makes everyone else depressed. I would have appreciated your suggestion on a color/color hex. The same goes for fonts. In all ups and downs, I am greatly thankful for everyone who has responded for providing me with feedback. When I get the chance, I will try to gather something that tries to incorporate my vision with your feedback. Here's a toast to all those who replied:

What exactly was the point of that? You actually find it necessary to laugh at it? Why? That just conjures up an image of a very arrogant, insecure person. Or that I meant it in a joking manner. And you guys are calling me the rude one? You sir have come across as a superior arrogant git and are now trying to wriggle your way out of it by whining on about this and that in your last post. Face it - your arrogance and superiority has backfired on you. How has it backfired when being arrogant wasn't intended? Its hard to express tone in words on a forum but you guys are so damn quick to condemn. I speak what I think. Sorry if I don't sugar coat it for you guys. There's a little bit of this going on in this forum from certain members, I've noticed. People who know more than other people "laughing" at them for not knowing as much as they do. There's really no call for it, or are certain web people really just a bunch of arrogant hyper-insecure narcissists? I hope not. I never laughed at him (though you may incorrectly assume that I did). I never said that I "know more" and never called it out that he knew less. I offered up my opinions and some people took offense to that (if you may notice the OP did not). I really don't appreciate all the name calling against me and I sure as hell don't appreciate all the assumptions about my intentions. Thought I have earned a little more respect than that around here, but apparently not. Could I have worded it better? Sure... everything can. But it served its purpose as the OP saw my opinions and took it to heart, which is the point of a critique is it not?
March 7, 201115 yr Just stating you don't like the colors doesn't really make it a great feedback. As a designer you should know that everyone has different taste in colors. Just because this color makes you depressed does not mean it makes everyone else depressed. I would have appreciated your suggestion on a color/color hex. The same goes for fonts. Get used to it - unfortunately what a lot of good designers fail to incorporate or understand is taste. They assume because they're the "designer" that everyone should share the same taste as them. It's similar to hairdressers - they can be as good as they want, but sometimes the "taste" factor or understanding of different tastes is missing in their skillset. For the record I didn't find the original colours depressing or sad. More "businesslike" I would have said. And you guys are calling me the rude one? Dunno about the others but I am. Whether it's intentional or not I can't say. From your protests it would appear not if giving you the benefit of the doubt, in which case maybe you want to think about how you're coming across on your written word and how that might read to others. This is also a skill a designer can hae both in design and communication. I never laughed at him (though you may incorrectly assume that I did). What does "Lol" stand for then? It stand for "LAUGH out loud". Therefore it reads like you're laughing at him. Perhaps you should have written "I mean that in a lighthearted way" or something similar. Now it's my turn to laugh - Lol, it's funny when the arrogant posters on here start backpeddling furiously when actually challenged. Either that or they don't bother posting in that thread anymore.
March 7, 201115 yr Two comments from me - I think the align:justify is letting you down a little in the buckets on the first pic. In the middle one the spacing inbetween the words is too big IMHO. Also - not entirely convinced by the headings that look like they're double stitched - have you any alternatives that you've tried? I guess for me they look a bit "low tech" if you see what I mean. I think the opposite to your friend - make the stiched headers like the solid "about us" one. I quite like the colour scheme actually, it's kinda different. Too many designers are actually ending up following "trends" because it's "cutting edge" (for about 3 minutes then it's passe) and without realising it ending up all looking the same - I think you ought to go here with what you think, maybe get advice on tweaking particular shades, or refer to one of those colour wheel/matching sites to tweak them slightly into place. Edit - maybe add a little more splash of colour example the blue of the header - here and there. Edited March 7, 201115 yr by Beeble
March 7, 201115 yr Beeble, you are now being 10 times more rude than you assume I am. I don't know what you intentions are other than to troll me but you can look forward to me not posting anymore to your comments.
March 7, 201115 yr Author Thank you very much for the change in topic. I was trying to end the argument with my last statement but it didn't really work. In any case, thank you for the feedback. I see what you mean by the "stitched font." When I code the design, I am thinking about using a style/color changer script which will give the option for this color, a lighter gray such as the one on my personal site, a blue color, and one more when I think of it. I still heave to play around with the header. I'm thinking after I finish coding the basic layout, it will make the playing around with the font styles much easier (as I need fonts that work with the browsers.
