CMS, what exactly is this.

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has already been covered, but what exactly is a CMS? what exactly do is it used for in other words and how does it intergrate with a site I am making. I have been asked to make a site for a guy I know, who wants to have an area where he can update shows and galleries he is doing. Can this make it so he just has to add something without even looking at the HTML? or am i completly missing the point...

The curiosity came about when I was reasearching website information and this kept coming up, I'v downloaded Joomla, but have no idea what to do with it.

Let's say that someone who does not know anything about HTML or have any technical knowledge would like to control some bits and pieces of his website. How would he do that? He needs to have a simplified interface, of course protected by a login, where he can only worry about uploading the content he has without messing about with the technical bit. A CMS system exactly does that. It gives you a easier option to manage your website content without worrying about the bare-bones of your website.

There are some open source CMS like Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal, etc. and proprietary CMSs' which are developed by individual web development companies

References can be looked up at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system

Exactly as above, CMS = Content Management Systems.

No need for the use to know how to code, usually just a simple form to fill out to change the, add or delete content on their site.

Hello there,

CMS is Content management system which could be build in different technologies as per site,s requirement.

It is Admin area to manage content and images which will allow admin to add, amend and delete the content, categories, images ,pricing etc.

Me!

I'd stay away from Joomla if you're new to CMS development, it's got quite a steep learning curve. If you're already comfortable with creating static sites and don't need too much advanced functionality, try WolfCMS. It's easy to develop for you, easy to use for your client. Win/win.

Hi,

A content management system is the collection of rules that helps us to manage work flow in a collaborative environment. In a CMS we can able to display pictures, videos, discussions, documentations etc. They are mainly used for storing, managing and publishing the documentation. There are many CMS that’s helps in design and developing the websites. The most popular among them are Drupal and Joomla.Drupal is flexible and developer-friendly. It also the coherent and stable community led by large developing companies. My suggestion for you is Drupal.
