October 24, 201016 yr Hey everyone, So... i've learned so much web design/development now and managed to bag my first couple of clients . I have created their sites and now for obvious reasons need to create my portfolio to potentially gain more clients and gain a better reputation as a freelance Web Developer. My question is which web host provider should i go for to host my site? Thanks to any replies, WebDev_Tank

From what you've said on here, it sounds like you probably want a shared hosting site as you won't be doing anything too server intensive. Currently in celebration of the launch of our new website, we have discount offers running on our Reseller Packages with a new offer starting on our Shared Hosting packages next week - have a look at our website (www.jsthosting.com) for details. We have several clients already running existing 'portfolio sites' so would be able to offer you something to match your requirements. If you do have any further questions about things, drop me an IM or give us a call. Thomas

Your hosting provider should ideally be as close to your audience as possible, so if your targeting UK based clients then you would definately be looking for UK based hosting companies. Choosing a comany thats been around for quite a long time (Not just a few year) will also tell you that they must be doing something right, and look for reviews too... Dont just jump at the cheapest offer on the table, as often, selling yourself short in business is no way to acheive long term business success, and you as a customer wouldnt be expected to be over the mood with a service that cost you next to nothing for a fortunes worth of resources... He who sells everything for nothing, will tomorrow have nothing as his everything. Sadly thats not just a saying, thats simple business physics. Choosing a host that can actually talk to you and answer their phones too without those really annoying answering systems too, is a bonus, call some hosts to make sure the phones are answered... We have seen a LOT of hosts who advertise phone numbers, yet NEVER answer their phone at all, ever.... Dont be worried about prodding a few hosts to see who responds :-) For your portfolio website, even 50mb will be a ton of space, like a pea inside a football, and our charges are £31.50 p/yr for that, which would be more than ample for your needs, should you feel inclined to look us up :-)
October 24, 201016 yr Author Thank you very much for your reply! and yes I am targeting people in the UK! I will definatly take a look at your service also.
October 24, 201016 yr Author Also thank you tom my phone was acting up and I didn't see your reply! Cheers again and I will take a look at your site

October 24, 201016 yr I wouldn't use AWS/EC2 for a portfolio site, its unnecessary hassle. However if you are looking at gaining experience using the cloud for web applications, then go for it. For your portfolio site, as you are based in the UK, go for UK based hosting. As a portfolio site, don't go for the cheapest option, but it isn't mission critical so dont spend too much. Also look at reseller hosting, if you would like to provide hosting for your clients, its a great service to offer. Just remember that you will have to support your clients in case of any problems.

Thanks to any replies, WebDev_Tank I will suggest you to go for reseller hosting, choice cpanel hosting, as you will get more addon features , that helps your business as well.

Thanks I was thinking of using it for a project and wondered if there is any catch to the free offer? does it charge auotmatically after you reach the limits? Does anyone know or use them?
October 25, 201016 yr Yes it does charge automatically after you reach the limits. But AWS isn't too expensive
October 25, 201016 yr Would you recommend to use on a project? or stick with a vps? Cause i was thinking as it is free to start, would i reach the limits?
October 25, 201016 yr Depending on the project really. I'm not an expert on hosting, but I have done some research for a web app. What I felt was, using AWS is a great way to scale your projects when you need, but it requires you to have written it for the platform. In my case, I prefered to use a VPS, as I know what I am doing, and I can easily test it with a testing server at home. As I don't know what you are doing, I can't say whether you would reach any of the limits. What are you planning on doing and which services are you going to be using? Check out this link
