I guess it doesn't matter too much where you register your domains if I'm honest (as long as the domain fees are reasonable and you can make the necessary domain changes from their control panel). As for the hosting though, I suggest you do your research before choosing a provider as it's vitally important you choose a company who can suit your needs and provide you with a reliable solution. I always advise people on these forums to steer clear of the 'big daddy hosting companies' and to find a company who can offer you a personal level of support, as it will make a huge difference at the end of the day.

Hi LuluG, welcome to the forums. Generally you should only go with Windows hosting if you need windows-specific technologies (such as ASP). As you have made your site using Dreamweaver, I assume it's just static HTML files with images so it'll work on either Windows or Linux. However, Linux tends to be more reliable in the hosting industry so I suggest you look towards Linux hosting. I hope this helps.

It'll be a real shame if it's riddled with spam like the others. Hopefully having only a small amount of forums as you say will make it easier to manage. The last place anyone wants to go for advice is a site overwhelmed with spam so hopefully your forum can remain relevant and a good resource to users.

Hi Jason, Yes, I've just read your post about the SEO forum; a good idea as I am unaware of anything currently like it, and I'm sure it would be valuable to many people. Let me know when it's up and running and I'll take a look. In terms of hosting, I'm sure you're aware there are many companies offering hosting on this forum (including Jst Hosting), and there are a lot of decent reviews made by the members here. It's just a case of taking a look around and finding who's right for you. I suggest staying away from the 'Big Daddies' (namely 1&1) though. Hi wkdfx, Adding an A Record for the sub-domain beta.domain.com to point to the new host will not in anyway affect the main domain. The only way this will affect the main domain is if the actual nameservers are changed (which is not necessary), or if the A Record of the domain itself is changed.

That's really unfortunate. It really annoys me when I see cases like this; it's as if they don't care about their customers. At the very minimum they could have done a goodwill gesture.

If you have paid for car insurance and got confirmation about it being renewed (which I presume WebFusion would have done when you paid for your domain renewal?) then you are still covered irrespective of weather it went through or not. It seems extremely negligent on their behalf and any company who says it is your responsibility to ensure your service you have paid them to setup has gone through is very odd indeed.

I would have thought (depending on their terms) that paying the renewal fee to them is a contractual agreement between you and them. The fact they were in breach of contract by not renewing your domain probably means they should have recuperated any costs, although I'm not too sure how it cost you £2000? Surely the domain had a redemption period before it was snapped up?

Generally, unless you are using technologies such as ASP, your best direction would be linux hosting. As you're just using HTML/Images it doesn't particularly matter which platform you go for, but linux hosting tends to be more reliable and a bit cheaper.

Hi kazzafromuk, As long as the new hosting providers servers are located in the UK then this should have no impact on your search engine rankings providing you use the same domain name by transferring it over. 10 days without e-mails is very shocking so I hope you can find a better service shortly!
