Which layouts would you want to prefer specially for news paper website. Joomla or wordpress or anything else....

Joomla is a content management system, Wordpress is a blogging engine, You can style & theme them however you like...

Consider Drupal also. I think Wordpress might be a bit too lightweight for a newspaper.

Some big organisations use wordpress. CNN and NY Times are two big ones that i know use wordpress for their writers blogs. I believe ebay does as well.

 

Wordpress is perfectly scalable.

Is that free? Does it work the same way as Wordpress etc? Download the source files and upload to your ftp?

Vivvo is a well established CMS that's purpose built for running a newspaper type site, it's not "free" but it is open source so you could write your own modules etc. Installation is fairly standard, set up database, upload files, and run installer.

I'm just about to start on a local newspaper project;

 

I've chosen wordpress, for several reasons;

 

It is extreamly easy to post to for the newspaper staff.

It has lot's of SEO plug'ins

Probably the most suitable themes available

 

The greatest thing about going online with a newspaper is that you esentially have a goldmine of rich unqiue content, almost daily, which the search engines love. SEO you site correctly, and the content can bring you thousands of visitors, and possibly an extra revenue stream.
