August 23, 201016 yr Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows if with Wordpress it is possible to create just an index page and put the tags for 1 post in, so that the 1 static page can be updated when editing that one post? Thanks
August 23, 201016 yr You could set it up as a page rather than a post. Then in the settings under reading you can change it to display that one static page. That way all you need to do is edit the page rather than edit the post.
August 23, 201016 yr Author Say I created a static page layout. In that layout could I put the php include tags to get the content? Instead of creating a whole theme?
August 23, 201016 yr Author Sorry, Instead of creating a new theme (so that i can use my own design) and just do pages in wordpress. Can I create a php page that has php includes with a tag showing the certain post inside? My page - post 1 include When I edit post 1 in wordpress it changes the content on my static My page Hope that's clearer?

WordPress is going to need a theme whatever the weather. I have limited experience with WordPress, but it seems you do just want a page that you can update as and when.. Take for example my first WP website; Duck My Life.. Home page - http://www.duckmylife.co.uk/ The homepage contains the most recent posts, in a list, when new content is added it automatically shows here. About page - http://www.duckmylife.co.uk/about/ The about page is dynamic, meaning I can log into WordPress and change the content, then as soon as I press save it is updated. It sounds to me like this is what you are trying to achieve? I am currently looking into using WordPress as a CMS rather than a blog, with the end game being to offer it to clients who want to update thier own websites. If this isn't what you meant at all, I apologise, but that's what I got from it. Good luck.

I still find it a little confusing how to make a theme work. Where is the best place to start making a theme for wordpress 3.0 not the old version in this thread. Many thanks again!
August 24, 201016 yr I see what you're trying to do here. Basically you don't want to create your entire site using Wordpress, but just 'include' a post inside a page of your static site. I've not done this before, but reckon you could probably do it. You'd have a lot of unnecessary files (like the full installation of Wordpress lol) If I were you I'd consider using a more simple CMS than Wordpress for this project. Try something like Perch. It's very easy to set up and use. I wrote a blog post on it the other day too which might be useful for you.

Thanks for understanding. So this is possible. How would you recommend I do this?
August 25, 201016 yr Nice Blog! Authentic_Style, I'm looking for the cheapest way to do it lol. Thanks for understanding. So this is possible. How would you recommend I do this? You'd just buy a copy of Perch (£40 inc VAT), set up a MySQL database on your server where you're hosting your site, and install Perch. Then you build your static site as normal and just drop the Perch tags in to the bits you want to make editable. Then when you go into the Perch admin area you can choose whether you want that area to just be a simple text area, news items, or a repeating area (e.g. news articles). Have a quick read of their support documentation and you'll see how easy it is.
