My mate wants me to do him an ecommerce site, there wont be thousands of products, he just wants something that has an admin area to check stock, prices, sales, profit and track orders etc.

 

My selection for this is open cart.

 

Just wondering how much to charge him, i was thinking between £800 and 1k for everything?

 

As this is my first e-commerce site, is there anything you guys might have slipped up on like contract, price or spec of work etc?

 

Just wondering how much i should charge, info regarding SSL certificates, what and why? Also payment methods and any middle man charges etc?

 

Just anything from your experiences that would help me really.

I have just installed OpenCart and from first glance around, it looks pretty simple.

 

Myself, im in the same boat as you, designing my first ecommerce site.

800 - 1k is reasonalbe.. we charge £1200 if we installing a custom template and full configuration of the back end / payment modules / shipping modules etc.

 

if these are mates rates then they would be about right.

 

Just find a host who will look after you

800-£1k is very reasonable considering most agencies charge upwards of £6k for ecommerce sites. I once had a quote of £22k from an agency just for the development of an ecommerce site. It was quite a complex store with some bespoke functionality, but still...

I did a freebie for family, using WordPress and the Ecommerce plugin... Was a bumpy ride...But is a good solution if you can get the cart working without much trouble...

Im going to start off with open cart and do my mum a simple ecommerce site for her aloe vera products. Will probably use something simple for the checkout like paypal.

 

She does this in her spare time so its only something on the side she does as a hobby if you like, so i dont think she will be wanting to pay all these monthly costs.

 

So thinking using something like paypal/opencart would suit?
