July 4, 201016 yr Hate to double post, but after grabbing myself a iPhone 4 today, I thought I wanted to bring up the following... The way I personally hold and use the phone doesn't cause the reception issue; however, if I clasp the phone in my hand it goes from full 3G signal to 1 bar of regular signal almost instantly. With such a clear hardware flaw, they will surely have to provide some sort of free fix/replacement to customers - legally? I'm not too fussed, I'm all insured and covered for refunds and will happily swap it for an HTC if it's not sorted out soon - but I can imagine the majority of customers aren't in my fortunate position. I know Apple are being sued out of their minds at the moment, but what do you think the likelihood of a global recall is? I have lost all faith in this 'upcoming software update' - everything points to hardware flaws. Other than this rather fundamental issue, it's an unbelievable piece of kit!

Steve jobs must be all over the place. All these constant allegations, lawsuits, etc. If Apple did a global recall, I can't imagine the extent of the negative impact it would have on the company. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the near future, that's for sure.

Apparently thats what they've already been doing right from the first iphone. Read something about the next software update correcting the way signal bars are calculated. In some areas where you might have had 3 bars, in reality you should have only had 1 or 2. I wouldn't be surprised if other phone manufacturers do the same.

As long as I can still send texts, and browse the web, I'm not too fussed .

I think it's quite bad to be honest, it shouldn't really have ever happened and, now that it has, Apple should sort it out by a recall to those who are suffering with the reception issue. Besides, from what I gather, it's not happening to every iPhone 4, just the majority.
July 8, 201016 yr Every iPhone suffers from the problem, but different signal levels and geographical locations seem to have an effect on how badly the signal drop occurs. As Frost Tear doesn't believe it's that bad, he may well be in a 'good' spot, but I assure you it can be bad. I'm in a full 3G area; gripping the phone in my left hand cuts signal to 'No service' on occasions, or to 1-3 bars of GPRS signal (lowest form of signal) on other occasions. It's a design flaw, but Apple would never recall such a hyped product; they're too 'elite' to ever admit to fault.

Let's see if this upcoming software update actually does anything first (doubtful). I don't think Apple have ever made such a fatal mistake. Still, it doesn't bother me, so recall or no recall, fix or no fix, I love my iPhone 4.
