Hey Leon.

The first thing I would do is loose the child like bird.

if your website is about business the bird will not help anything, it suggests that you are not professional to me anyway.

Thanks! How do people go about getting a new bird logo? I like your site :)

My feeling is that you have created a good layout but it's a little too text-heavy for me. Maybe a few more business images would help?

It is a bit of a mixed bag- but I would like something of my own that gives more of a consistent impression to try and build a brand upon!

Great tips so far :)

Hell Leon,

I like this design.

What if you will go further and will add to the bird more of anthropomorphic features, attributes with a business bias? Say, tie, briefcase, statistical chart in background. Dow Jones index, and so on.

I would add also some pictoresque icons for content text blocks.

Why 'Useful Links' header differs from 'Categories', 'Live Serarch', 'Sign In'?

Fantastic points!!

There is a stock ticker plugin somewhere, not sure if they have a FTSE 100 one though..

The reason the 'Useful Links' text is bigger is that I don't know how to change it!!

EDIT: Cool useful links has changed, just working on getting it underlined and blue

Hello my amazing WDF friends!

Things are moving forward for me which I am very excited about! Lev has fixed my useful links which I am very grateful for.

Also Helen from here is putting together a logo for the site that I can call my own :) I cant wait.

As you are all hardcore web veterans I would love to hear some of your thoughts:

Do you think it is quite slow to load? I might need to change the .jpgs!

I am not sure how to set out my Read an Article Page in an interesting way

Do you think the ask the community tab is too much? Should I concentrate on the core product of providing commentable articles?

My Link!

Interesting post I found

Thanks!

Leon

P.S. Made this today:

Hooray for Wordpress, I am also a recent convert.

I like the site, it's clean and gets your info across well. I like the bird, I think the logo would be boring without it. Possibly a bit too much space above the logo and I'm not keen on the big yellow/orange box. It's certainly eye catching, but think you could do a bit more with it. Other than that, it's pretty cool, well done.

With regards to plug ins, thumbnails for excerpts is pretty good, just makes your homepage posts a little more interesting.

Hi Mr oneeyedpauly!

Thank you for posting your thoughts- some really good pointers!

Cheers,

You're using the WordPress Wiki theme. My tip to you would be learn how to build your own theme first, then switch to WP. It helps understanding.

I struggled with other peoples templates for a while then gave up, and came back to learn from scratch.

So as far as tips for WP go that's all i'd say.

Apart from that, good job at installing WP and uploading a theme.

Hi there,

Thanks for your comment, Yep its the Wiki one for sure- hopefully it didn't come across that I made the theme! I really love the layout and have been learning a lot playing around with it.

I would love to build my own WP site for scratch but feel I must concentrate more on content than design right now to be efficient with time (I'm not an expert!), one day I hope!!!

Cheers,

Leon

Oh hey, yeh there was nothing wrong in the way you said it. You didn't make false claims or w.e. Sorry if i sounded a bit off also that wasn't the intention.

Content is King as they say, if you have any specific requests for WP shoot me a mail and i'll be happy to record a screen cast if it's within my league.

Thanks a.g.r.c. and Lucas Ferrera! I am very happy but think its a bit boring right now! Some new graphics and a less stern logo should be coming soon which I am pretty excited about. I have a quite a lot of plugins right now on the site, I hope it isnt too slow!

The yellow box isnt very interesting either- I will try to come up with something cool!
