November 30, 200916 yr Morning all, i'm in the process of updating a website for a family friends business. They have given me details to access there online account, which works fine. Once here there is no info regarding uploading the site to there domain. I'm trying to upload the site via FTP method, using the same username/password but I don't seem to be able to access it? Regarding the host details that are requested through the ftp software...do you enter the host company, for example ftp.xxxxinternet.com or should this be their companies domain? sorry for been simple! many thanks
November 30, 200916 yr FTP login will require the name of the hosting server. This is usually (but not always!) the same as the domain name. Depending on the hosting set-up and the FTP client you use you may need to include 'ftp://' before the domain, some use just 'ftp.'. ISP's sometimes supply a different set of username/password for hosting accounts and FTP login. So I think you need to check with them to make sure you have the correct ones.
November 30, 200916 yr The details that work, are you logging in to a control panel? Usually you can upload files via a browser based ftp. You can also find details about ftp within the control panel. The ftp address you need to login is their companies domain and usually the password is the same as the one that is allowing you to successfully login. Hope this helps Damian
November 30, 200916 yr your host hould have emailed you the FTP for the site and your user and pass. If not, then contact your host, and if they reply saying you dont have an FTP, then you cant access it. If yes, then reply asking for the details or where to find them in your CP.. Regards,
