I mentioned a project that I had taken on in a post a number of weeks ago:

Only two minor points: the navigation is lost almost completely. I would have a prominent 'call to action' button for the contact page on every site page.

 

And, as a little icing on your cake, why not add a Googlemaps reference link to the contact page. That way, people can get directions.

yeah I get one validation error:

 

The character encoding specified in the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) is different from the value in the <meta> element utf - 8. I will use the value from the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) for this validation.

 

but I cant really get my head around what the cause is. The header information is the same as any of the other sites I have validated and they have passed the validation tests.

yeah I might look at adding an active link status to the navigation tabs, and the google maps feature is a good idea. I will ask the client about updating these elements.

Looks good though I agree with seige in saying the nav is not too obvious.

 

I was surprised only to find three pages, perhaps this was in the original spec, but I would have suggested separate pages for Minis and BMW's extolling the virtues for each model - this would then allow you to focus more on specific keywords.

I think that there is too much information in the footer for it to be placed where it is...what could work is place it in the red stripe at the bottom, so that it has room to its self and doesn't interfere with the rest of the content in the whit part. This might also help balance the page a little better too, as you will have a bit more red at the bottom to match the large section of red at the top

Yeah my brief was to keep it really simplistic in terms of actual content. The client was quite clear that they wanted only 3 pages with a brief list of services offered etc. And the graphical theme was tie in with a flyer they had done a short while ago.

 

Because of the briefness of the design content wise, that is why I have put quite a detailed amount of text in the footer to get some extra 'content' in the pages for the keyword / phrases etc. I am going to see how it performs in google and make future modifications to improve its listings if required.

yeah I might have a chat with the client about making a deep red band and put the footer content in to it. You're right, it would add some more balance to the base of the page to match the top. The footer has a lot of content to get more keywords in the page(s) for better SEO results etc.

Well... personally I think the stripes at the bottom are well balanced. They are the 'M' series stripes, are they not? That way, I would leave them be.

 

Because the info is not 'page content' as such, and the link to your own site is so prominent, I'd just create a DIV called 'footer' with common text colour values for everything, INCLUDING the URL (remember: the L V H A rule, and make ALL the text except the HOVER the same!)

This moves the type out of the main content area, and out of the way. Still readable, still indexable, and still clickable.

 

I would also recommend making the footers' text anchor to the alternating pages... this helps keyword linking between the pages in the search engines.

Yeah you are right its the M Sport stripes implemented at the base of the design.

 

I might have a think about the footer issue (thanks for the jpeg mockup by the way).

 

Not sure if I would have it hanging out on the bottom grey area though. Maybe light grey text out of a black band at the bottom might be better, it just looks like its "floating out" of the design base.
