October 10, 200917 yr Hi all I have been putting off putting anything on here – I’m scared…!!!! I like the “minimalist touch” at the moment.! Only know HTML and CSS for now – just a shell not really done typo etc etc and lots of other things. Ok so there is a LOT to do but thought I would throw the first look out there. Its not finished “of course” no meta Seo etc etc etc. http://www.mdsweb.co.uk/ Torrix
October 10, 200917 yr Never let anybody click okay befor the enter your site. This is a now go. But the code looks clean and grey on black isn't to bad. Maybe the red text should be over the content box. Maybe you could try not to underline the menu links, because two lines just over each other look wierd.

And please remove the Javascript dialog box, they're extremely annoying and will drive your traffic straight back out
October 10, 200917 yr Looks okay, nothing to be ashamed of. I agree, you should remove the underline of the links. a { font-family:arial; font-weight:bold; text-decoration: underline; color: #ffffff; background: transparent; } Replace with a { font-family:arial; font-weight:bold; text-decoration: none; color: #ffffff; background: transparent; } Just a suggestion. ---------------------------------------- [edit] also "Hi i'm Mike. If your reading this your looking for someone to build you a web site, well I think you may have just stumbled on to a winner here!" Shoud be "Hi i'm Mike. If you're reading this and you're looking for someone to build you a web site, well I think you may have just stumbled on to a winner here!" ---------------------------------------- NICE WORK!
October 11, 200917 yr Author Thanks guys, I have taken on board the comments really appreciate them. I have taken the underline off the links and the JS pop up off (the only reason it was on there was to advise under construction - I would never put one on the page for real) Spelling/grammar - oops - thanks for the heads up. As I said in the original post lots of things to tweak etc but I can’t go wrong with some positive criticism..! cheers all.
October 11, 200917 yr it's a bit dark! red, black and grey looks a bit 80s maybe a subtle gradient from black to charcoal or something in the background... i would change that horrible font in the background! and if you do use it then don't use it in all caps Times is difficult to use on a web page - i would suggest verdana, arial, or georgia instead. background should be a gif or 8-bit png (jpegs are best suited to photos or images with too many colours/complicated gradients) you could do with logo adn favicon looks a bit boxy - try using a subtle background (charcoal/carbon) behind the navigation why not put your quote next to the welcome message? use an h1 for your main heading (redefine it in your css if it's too large) to be blunt it doesn't look like a site from a web designer, yet

Not a page from a web designer yet. I wanted to get a basic thing up and develop as I go along. The main thing is I really only know HTML and CSS, I’m in the process of learning PS, AI etc. You have mentioned most things that will be added, updated or changed (like I said in the original post). Haven’t even really played with fonts colour changes etc. I wanted to get a page that worked and validated (well apart from the CSS 3 stuff grrrr ) The one thing that I know is going to take time is learning how to put together my ideas. I have “post its” 100’s of pieces of paper and I scribble on everything round the house, but not the skill or knowledge to get it working…. But time will sort that out. Cheers Davep Mike EDIT Whats wrong with the 80's LOL
