Well someone who does it for a living is going to get better results and faster than if you do it yourself when you don't know what you're doing!

If you intend to do it yourself it is a steep learning curve. If you have a large car business and you think the site will provide an income stream then invest in a reputable local SEO/SEM company.

It's simple enough. Make sure you draw up a proper agreement that states exactly what they will do. Ensure all the objectives are measurable and within a timescale. Clearly set out in the agreement what happens if the optimisers fail to achieve what they say they will e.g. reduced fees.

gentlefoots advice is spot on, make sure you know what they will be doing and how you will measure it BUT, watch out out for any firm which guarantees you certain rankings, either they know something the rest of the world doesn't or they're going to be using some dodgy methods. These methods might get your rankings up short term but the odds of them lasting are pretty slim and the dodgy tactics often employed may get you banned.

DXNX said it perfectly. You should do you homework and remember if it seems to good to be true.....

 

It is possible to do SEO yourself, but do you have the time to learn and what else could you be doing while someone else is opitimising your site, building links and assessing the traffic information to do more optimisation , link building and so the process carries on!
