October 10, 200619 yr Hi, I'm currently looking to expand into my own personal Dedicated Servers, i'v looked at a few companies, 1and1.co.uk, 123-reg.co.uk, uk2.net and fasthosts.co.uk and to be honest what ranks above the rest with price/performance is 1and1.co.uk For £69 inc VAT (A Month) Free FTP backup space – 80 GB AMD Athlon 64 3,000+ 1,024 MB DDR RAM 2x80 GB hard drive (RAID1) Fedora Core Firewall Plesk 8 (100 domains) Unlimted 100 MBit Bandwidth (Wow) 24x7 Telephone Support (Sceptical About this) Now with my company we have multiple 1and1 shared hosting accounts - and the speed can be quite sluggish sometimes (which is expected with shared accounts) - but it does offer a great deal of features. 1and1 Is a huge company which is why they can offer such great features at lower prices. So before I buy, has anyone had experience with 1and1's dedicated hosting? The only reason I have reservations is that I hear their support is some what bad. You can get put through to call centers in India, Phillipenes and Germany... So i'm rather wary of this. Can anyone confirm this problem? UK2.net comes close second but a decent control panel is £19 extra putting it to over £80 - so really 1and1 is still a better option on price. Hope some one can lend some good advice. Many thanks. Ben
October 10, 200619 yr go for hostsapphire.co.uk for all that for cheaper but this will have to be setup by msn not internet or by phone I am also a user of this company please say Sam Ducker user name : ultra Reffered you his email is johnny@hostsapphire.co.uk
October 14, 200619 yr Hi Ben I used 1&1 when I first started with my websites many many moons ago LOL, I transferred to a company called first call hosting who were taken over by blackfoot hosting and can honestly say I've never had any probs with them. Support is available 24 hours a day and when I have had to submit a ticket (which is not very often) it's replied to well withing the time parameters they set out, (usually within a couple of hours, quicker if it's urgent) I'd definatly recommend taking a look at the packages they offer altho i'm not entirely sure how much they charge for their dedicated servers tho www.blackfoot.co.uk is the addy ally
October 14, 200619 yr Author Many moons! - are you showing your age a little their he he Thank you kindly for the link, i'll check them out now, it's always nice to get real life testimonials rather than trawling through the commercial hosting review sites, as you never know if it was written by a genuine user or a member of staff, so I thank you for that, I'll look at what options they have.

Ben I really if you are looking for dedicated server go for cpanel control panel, 1and1 custom control panel lacks lots of features, when you are looking for grow the service specification seems a lot out dates with less drive space if you spend 30 to 40 GBP more you might get better processor that AMD, Plus I will add go for managed dedicated server as its never easy to monitor a server 24/7/365 days update application , modules upgrade php, mysql.. if you are unaware of server security things my suggestion will be go for managed dedicated server. Also the Plesk version is too old, latest plesk version is 9.5.
November 24, 201015 yr Cant tell you for the uk, but I had my experiences with 1&1 in germany both as dsl provider as well as hoster. I won't talk about the first one (horrible), but the hosting experience was: - Expensive (compared to e.g. strato or hosteurope) - Support reachability equals waiting aproximately 10 minutes in the line listening to their nice music. Wrong tech guy answering. Repeat. - Incompetent / unwilling support (a customer of mine had a hosting with 1&1 which should have included php 5. But only php 4 was installed. After a week of mailing and calls I rewrote my web app to work with php 4) However they offer quite nice software / management packages.
November 29, 201015 yr Never Go for 1and1 Root Server Package ................. Bad Support from various outsourced call centers ................... Regards, Puneet verma Extranetworld.com
December 3, 201015 yr I find "tiainterweb.net" a dedicated webhosting service provider in India. Is there any other who provides dedicated service to their clients.
December 3, 201015 yr i have dedicated server from 1 and 1 and i love it. Its not listed on there website now as its 6 months old. Its very quick. The only thing i would say, unless you have a server administrator working for you, 1and 1 are not helpful on support unless you pay extra for managed.
