July 29, 200917 yr Lol,i was searching ebay and came across a liar. the link The above link is the advert on ebay. She says in it the website is designed by proffesionals. Heres the website >>WWW.SMARTMOVELETTINGAGENTS.COM I can tell you a fact this isnt designed by professionals, ive used it before and its moonfruit.com Lmaooo
July 29, 200917 yr The scary thing is, I wouldnt be surprised if that was actually designed by a professional though. I was browsing the web recently and came across a few websites, all designed by the same 'professional'. But imo the websites didnt look that great. Disclaimer: Please note that this is not an attack on specific web designers nor am I saying that im a great designer myself, im just says that some 'professionals' work isnt actually that professional.

July 30, 200917 yr It's starting to depress me, so many people are are being used and abused by people claiming to be web professionals and it's not fair, so many of us here deserve to get more contracts but are being shunned by people who are rubbish at website design and a lot more expensive. A good example of this happened to me recently, my sister-in-law (to be) works at a nursery in the town where I live, the nursery was approached by some people selling a website to them for £3,000 that they can update themselves etc, the website was a template and they just changed the header, the reason that it cost so much was because the company is 'ofsted registered', which they told the nursery was necessary when designing websites for schools and nurseries that are private (public). This really annoyed me, so I got in touch with OFSTED, they've never heard of a company being OFSTED registered for website design, and as long as you comply with the data protection act etc, you can basically do whatever the hell you want... I told my sister-in-law this, who went to the nursery basically saying "Look, you're being scammed." The nursery didn't care because "It's already sorted out." I know it might be a bit of a ****ty thing to do, but I'm seriously considering going to an organisation to get the design company checked out, it's hardly very fair on people like us who are honest and wouldn't have charged anywhere near £3000 for a site that's already pre-made and just needs a header changing, and it pisses me off that people are stupid enough to hire them. Rant over.
July 30, 200917 yr At the end of the day, you've just got to be professional, have a good homepage, and play hardball too. Get your contracts in order, get the offering right and aim for a specific market. And be firm but fair with the client - don't tolerate overt content delay, and make sure there's small print that obliges them to pay you a billion pounds if they bail and steal.
July 30, 200917 yr I was speaking with a potential client yesterday, he said one of his websites he was charged £500 for basically 2 HTML pages - simple pages with text and a couple of images, something that would take anyone about half an hour to complete from scratch!
April 20, 201016 yr Hi Guys. I've joined this forum specifically because of this issue. I run a very small local IT company proving hardware and software support to local customers but I don't have any design skills at all. Money is very tight at the moment but I still decided to invest in a new website and to pay a professional to do the job. I paid a company (who I wont name for the moment) a set fee for a 6 page flash site and 12 months hosting etc. Even though the package came with free hosting and domain for the first year I did specifically ask before hand about transferring it to my own hosting company so I have control of it. I was told this wasn't a problem. (I designed two websites using free online designers like wix to give the designers a clear idea of exactly what I wanted, in an event to make things easier, but I didn't expect them to use the same systems as me) When i got the first proof of the site I noticed that the domain was forwarding to pulseit.moonfruit.com This worries me greatly for two reasons, one is what kind of company am I really dealing with and secondly can I actually transfer the whole site to my hosting?? I being doing some digging and the international design house looks to me more like one guy in his bedroom and even worse the site is stuck on Moonfruit!!!! So Im not happy! The site is still on its first draft, so I need to work out where I go from here.. Does anyone know if i can rip it off moonfruit? Nice to meet you all anyway..
April 20, 201016 yr @PulseIT - sorry to hear of your dilemma. It depends on 2 things from what I can see. One is that ripping it from moonfruit might be a breach of their terms and conditions, and could lead to unwanted and unfair legal action. Secondly, if the site uses any server side scripting, you won't be able to carry the benefit over to your own host without ftp access (ie just by ripping the images and html). My advice is to cut your losses with your current 'designer/ developer' and spend a little time finding someone honest and professional who will do a good job and not rip you off, or use moonfruit ffs...
April 20, 201016 yr Thanks Notbanksy for your reply. I had a horrible feeling someone was going to say that. I'm not worried at all about the implications it may have about taking/ripping it from moonfruit. (on the basis I have a receipt for the website from my designer saying I have all copyright rights) What I was really hoping for is for a flash designer to say I can use a program to download it all or that they could decompile it etc etc.. The problem being is I have spent my entire budget already with this company and can no longer afford to pay someone else to do the same. As I said, I will never claim to be a web designer, but how unprofessional does it look for an IT support companies website to forward to bloody Moonfruit, not cool at all! Thanks
April 20, 201016 yr PulseIT, Send me a PM. I'll do the site for you FOC. Sometimes we have to give a little to show were not all t***ts. Dean
April 22, 201016 yr why not ask the designer again about transferring the site? maybe they are keeping it there while they are in development phase. while it is quite likely you're being ripped off don't jump the gun. find out first then act
