I asked a similar question a few days ago, no response Personally I favour Amazon S3/CloudFront just because of the support (good CDN edge network too). Let me know how you get on.

I have a site that is growing steadily and has now just topped 4GB in size. I have 15GB web hosting space with my current provider, so no problem with size at the moment. I wondered if anyone had looked at CDN for serving MP3 files (typically 3-30MB in size). I've had a quick look at Amazon Cloudfront, although this just adds CDN and would sync from my existing webhost. To offload the files from my current webhost (ideal situation) I would have to tie it up with Amazon S3. Costs seems reasonable. Average page load time over the past few months is 2.7 seconds, so no real issues with performance apart from the occasional spike probably due it it being shared hosting. The site has a small numbers of visitors (1000 per month Now would be a good time to look at solutions as I'm doing a site revamp. Obviously I could leave it as is, but I look after quite a few sites and I'm looking towards future scalability, as once I hit 15GB I have some issues. Should I leave well alone for now, or look at file hosting/CDN? Cheers, Dean

Don't be embarassed to ask for a decent deposit, I usually ask for 50%, and most are quite happy with this. As per other recommendations, always have a contract. There will come a day when you will need it. Regards, Dean

Normally I design in Joomla, but a client wanted a very specific design so I created a traditional HTML/CSS site. The Flash is not mine (i'm not a graphics guru), but think the site works well, and the client is very happy. I also incorporated a simple modal pop up dialog box with PHP emailer (see www.ericmartin.com). I jumped straight in with Joomla, and designed my first commercial web site (albeit with a YOOtheme template) in less than 2 weeks. My CSS and HTML knowledge has jumped a lot and has been picked up as I come across issues I need to solve. It did help that I had a lot of previous IT (albeit not web design experience) plus Linux expertise. Im now getting up to speed with designing my own custom Joomla templates. Honestly, i'd say go for Joomla if you want to but expect a steep learning curve, and to put a fair bit of work in. The Joomla forums are brilliant for help by the way, one of the most active communities around. Cheers, Dean

I have recently setup my own website design concern. I will be concentrating on website design, primarily around Joomla and standard XHTML/CSS sites. My focus is primarily, but not exclusively the North East of England (Newcastle/Northumberland/Co. Durham/Teesside) My forte is not graphic design, and I'm looking for Photoshop/Flash/Illustrator conversant designers. You dont have to be local, but it would be a bonus for future collaboration.
