bright blue, boring. Sorry to sound harsh, but you are advertising yourself as a web DESIGNER!

It lacks creativity and a Web 2.0 feel. Lighten it, space it out. And link the images to the theme - a laptop in your header! Come on, thats lame.

On the front of the site you show what people will assumes is your "flagship" project, and its a boring green site for a trust. Lose it.

And finally, you commit the CARDINAL business error:

"A lot of companies ask "do we really need a website?" - well in order to succeed in business, your company's primary goals will be to obtain new customers and also to keep your existing ones happy. Some companies believe that having a website is a pointless, expensive exercise – but in reality it’s quite the opposite. Take a look at this comparison table to see why:"

You are teaching people to suck eggs. They do the business, they are visiting your site because they recognise they need a website, so why the hell are you telling them that!

Go to Google, search "web design" and look at how it should be done, then start again. Sorry to be harsh but this is YOUR livelyhood that I am commenting on.

Kind of freaks my eyes out a bit, the comination of blue/black is a little peculiar, I'm not sure why. If you worked on the colours a bit more, you'd have a great looking site with good content.

Im with the laptop on the header comment... It is a bit lame and expectant imho!

What colour would you lot suggest for the navigation bar?

And same question for replacement of laptop image in header?

Thanks

OK I changed the background and spaced the navigation bar out a little.

Still having a think about the image in the header for each page - any ideas? The logo inside the laptop is my company logo, I did think of putting that in but I don't think it looks right (hence why I put it inside the laptop in the first place).

I quite like it Sam. I like the wood slat background style, but the black header seems to be a bit too heavy for me, have you tried using a semi-transparent PNG file and having it set at about 80% transparency? That might look a bit nicer.

Also, with the header bar, I would be tempted to change the line height so that the links are more central vertically, it will balance it out a bit.

Thanks mate. Just tried your above suggestions, I think it looks better now - what do you reckon? :)

Yes definitely a lot softer on the eye - try this as well:

I think that will look a lot better tbh mate :)

I did think of doing that but the problem is the menu is actually an unordered list, and the two images (skip navigation icon on the left, RSS feed icon on the right) are individual list items so not sure how I could combine the two into one list item.

Ah I get you - I am sure there could be some graphic work around... not sure how to do it off the top of my head lol - but there must be a way :p

I dont like this fixed background

Contact and rss should be in one line with others.

Too blue for me.

Will be nice if u will add other colour.

/btw

Chopper in sig r0x ! :D

I don't know if there's much point in having that skip to content buttom, it doesn't exactly skip very far and I personally don't think many people will actually use it, or even understand what it does from that icon.

Also the laptop needs to blend in with the background.

The Skip Navigation icon is there for accessibility reasons - it is only there really for people with vision impairments that use screen readers - i.e. it reads everything on the screen out to them so rather than carry on listening to 'Home', 'Web Design' etc. etc. they can instruct their screen reader to follow that link and start 'reading' from the main content instead.

I would replace the laptop image with your logo. If, as you say, your logo doesn't look right, then it is a badly designed logo, and as your in the design business, this isn't good.

Redesign your logo so that it works in whatever enviroment it is put in and lose the cliched laptop image.

Also, the blue is the wrong tone and saturation IMO.

The other site was better on the eye. The colour management in this is all wrong. There's no cohesion between anything on the site. Employ a proper designer to do it for you and stick to coding.

The more I look at it the worse it gets - Sorry.

The nav is not 'connected' to the site. It looks all alone at the top.

Icons placed willy nilly in the nav bar

The logo is wrong, and whoever designed it missed the opportunity for some geometric cohesion

The 'case' style used in your header looks poor, as does the choice of font

The blue 'band' looks cheap

The blue of the site and the green of the website example don't sit

The mix of fonts doesn't work

Stretching sentences across the entire page doesn't look good - suggests a lack of ideas - not good for a design company.

Why the wood background?

£500 and I'll sort it all for you
