I see a lot of websites offering to submit url's to 300 - 5000 search engine directories.

 

Does anyone have a copy of said list of 5000 directories or good sites with links to them??

There aren't 5000 search engines - it's all hype. What they probably mean is that they'll submit your URL to 5000 directories that get sod all traffic

 

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_search_engines has a pretty comprehensive list of SE's, though most are niche based.

I know what you mean plus if I want to offer it as a service and I cannot find the so called 5000 search engines then if a company offers to submit to 5000 search engines there is no way a customer can find the 5000 and check that they have been submitted. A nice way of making people think they are getting a lot more for there money.

google loves spam tho

 

take dmoz, at the moment im seoing a site which isnt in dmoz yet against 20+ that are, and then the dmoz category has been copied all over the net so they have 100s of links just for being on dmoz!

Search engine submission is about the last thing on Earth I would spend money on. I'd even buy a pet rock before I give someone money to do that! Search engines will find you and index you for free, in a relatively short timespan.

Are you sure they didn't mean Directory Submission?

There are 5000 search engines? If there are I don't think many people are using them all. I would stick to the main search engines, Google, Yahoo, Bing?

Yeah, please stick to the bigger search engines. In some way, search engine submission is not that helpful when it comes to ranking. Have done a lot of submission without search engine submission, it doesn't seem that I miss a lot on it.

 

But somehow maybe that service offered you are talking might be directory submission.

I'm not sure about that. If you find 300 more social bookmarking or auto sumit website to social bookmarking. there are many applcation to do that. ... sorry I can help you

few search engines are enough if its helpful and useful
