I want to create a wordpress theme, how do I install PHP & MySQL on vista so I can make edits locally?

 

Also do you know of any good tutorials on building a theme...

XAMPP <-- for MySQL and PHP

 

Creating WP themes <-- Does exactly what it says on the tin. (or in the link text anyway)

I use XAMPP. It installs a web server locally on your computer.

And for future reference, after you install XAMPP, the folder where your site goes is HTDOCS. It took me a while to figure that out.

And your database username by default is "root", and the password is left blank.

Yip, Xampp is pretty nifty, personally I get on better with WAMP - but it's down to personal preference.

I used to use WAMP, but it kept crashing my computer lol, which is why I switched back to XAMPP

Or MAMP for macs but I guess you're not one of them?

My set up has always been

MySQL Administrator and Query Browser
