Why whats wrong?

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

my website Iconic Images has been submitted to google... but for some reason I just can't find it... the only keyword that brings in up is actually typing www.iconic-images.com

iconic-images does'nt bring in it the first 10 pages!

is the SEO really that bad and can anyone please give me some tips on ow to improve it...

Why use javascript to swap images? CSS can be used and it is faster, and you only have to use one image.

Your XHTML doesn't validate: 1 error alt tag not declared

Your CSS has 6 errors.

You've got a ton of keywords.. That might, get you down there.

I've identified the following problems.

1. There is hardly any text content on your home page! If you want to rank well in search engines, you need to have some decent (text) content on your pages - forget about the META keywords/descriptions tags - the Googlebot will spider what's actually on your page. So for example, this is what it will see:

Welcome to Iconic Images

Here you will find an exclusive collection of professional photography and printed art from around the world.

We also offer a wide range of photography services and can even print your own image on to a verity of formats including canvas wraps.

BTW - you've got a typo - change verity to variety... ;)

I'm afraid a couple of sentences isn't going to cut it really.

2. Optimise your file names and paths for search engines! I've made some suggestions in bold below:

about.html - about - change link to /about-iconic-images/index.html

gallery.html - gallery - change link to /image-gallery/index.html

services.html - photography - change link to /photography-services/index.html

print.html - print - change link to /print-services/index.html

design.html - graphic design - change link to /graphic-design/index.html

writing.html - sign writing - change link to /sign-writing/index.html

contact.html - contact us - change link to /contact-us/index.html

Having the right keywords in both your domain name and your file names/section names add weight to your getting a good ranking in Google.

There is a thread on here entitled Web Developer's SEO Cheat Sheet, I suggest you download the PDF in that thread to give you the lowdown on SEO.

Hope this helps.

It could be something as simple as they haven't got around to indexing your site yet, it isn't an instant process. If you "just" submitted it, it may take 72 hours for you to see it in the index.

It is in Google, the OP said that if he types his website's URL in Google it shows up in the results, but only that.

tbh, most of the top sites for 'photographer' have hardly any text. content isnt really an issue with your site, and crappy code wont really make too much difference to your SERP either (see how many errors are on the top site for 'web design')

so lets look at some things.

your page title needs to be optimised, to find out what people are searching for use this tool. search for 'cambridge photography' or 'cambridge photographer' they are throwing back some nice amounts of people searching. which ever you decide you need to make this your page title, eg cambridge photographer - iconic images. That lets google know exactly what your site is about, you may also like to continue this throughout your site and make a 'cambridge wedding photographer' page etc, you will see these suggested in the keyword tool.

Now you need to get google et al thinking your site is uber fantastically relevant! I suggest probably just copying the top10 sites in your niche. Use this tool to see where your competitors are gaining their links from and plainly copy them. Make sure the anchor text is your targeted keywords.

let me know how you get on.
