February 28, 200917 yr Hey everyone, I am selling my dell xps m1530 to get a macbook. The macbook i am looking at has a 2.16ghz processor, 2gb ram, 160gb hd and all the other stuff Anyone does anyone use a macbook primarly to do your web design, if so is that good stats? Thanks
February 28, 200917 yr I'm assuming it's a dual core processor? Some people prefer mac, Macs are best for video, audio and image editing. Windows are good for office applications. Linux for programming. I use windows personally, i think macs are overpriced for the spec you get, although i wouldn't mind one Your gonna start a whole windows v mac debate... be warned! P.S the spec's enough, you don't need overkill (:

March 1, 200917 yr It's a fair point, i've had next to no problems with vista on this machine except when i hibernate my pc, then when i switch it on it doesn't output to my monitor so i have to restart it... defying the point of hibernating. On my other halfs laptop however, we're constantly having trouble with vista... has a mind of its own
March 1, 200917 yr Plus I have always wanted a mac Who hasn't ? lol, we use them and/or powermacs in college when we're working in the editing suites and using the green screens, they're wonderful for video work. I just hate word processing on them. They do look pretty slick though which makes up for it
March 1, 200917 yr I only use my macbook and i've got on fine. I may upgrade to a pro for the larger screen tho - the 13 inch sometimes squiffs my judgement for sizes. Having said that, i get friends / family to test my sites on their pcs so not really that big an issue. For me vista is the biggest reason I haven't gone back to a pc despite the financial difference. March 1, 200917 yr In the office where I work, I am using a MacBook for web designing. So far satisfied with its performance and adequate for web design. Only drawback is the small 13" screen but otherwise it's perfect. I am using the 2.4ghz processor and remains steady even after using it for 11 hours straight. Compared to older MacBook models, this one emits lesser heat. Another thing is Apple removed the Firewire port which I feel should be there. But the 2 USB ports are okay in terms of file transfer. Apple claims it can transfer at 480mbps speed. It's lightweight and handy for carrying around. I've also use Vista and in my opinion not as good as Windows XP. I still go for the old XP. March 1, 200917 yr I'd like to add, with the Mac OSX, once installed, Apache and PHP are already built into the OS. I use it for a WordPress blog database. Quite handy and convenient. And the MacBook is also bootable to a Linux OS.
March 1, 200917 yr I have tried a few macs. They are good theres no doubt. The only thing that put me off to a point of going back to windows was that i found i was much less productive on a mac. That could be lack of knowledge of the operating system but at the time i didnt have time to keep researching stuff. I might even give mac another go. As the saying goes "Windows x64 is a 64 bit patch of a 32 bit patch of a 16 bit patch of an 8 bit operating system originally written for a 4 bit processor by a 2 bit company that cant stand 1 bit of competition!" March 1, 200917 yr I have my upgraded mac mini hooked up to my 21" dell monitor and it works spot on for me and less than £500 (not including monitor, mouse or keyboard already had those).
March 1, 200917 yr I've ordered a macbook and I think it's the same spec as the one you're talking about (the aluminum one?) so I'll let you know when I get it I work in the web development part of a company that also supplies and installs hardware for other businesses, so I spoke to some of the hardware guys and they said that it will have no problem running the apps I need. March 1, 200917 yr just for reference people... PC does not have to mean Micro$haft Windozzzzzzzzze Use Linux It's more stable, it's free, and is a LOT faster than the aforementioned American product...

March 1, 200917 yr Didn't have vista on my last pc it was xp but I found it wierd for a few months. You just need to spend to time getting used to the different apps then it's like a breath of fresh air I'm here if u need help. I think there are a few mac users on this forum
March 1, 200917 yr I was a PC user for 10 years and then got my mac, it took me a week or 2 to familiarise myself with the OSX setup etc. But now I love it. As said above if you get stuck with anything just shout.

March 1, 200917 yr Took me a day (2 at most) to get used to OS X, having never used it before. There's not much to it really. I suppose one of the things which could cause confusion at first is the way OS X mounts ISO's/DMG's. But apart from that, it's pretty damn easy to get used to.
