Having one of those days when I just can't create anything that makes sense, and everything looks well, pathetic.

 

The page below is one page from a project I recently started. The client seems to like it, but I have a problem with it and just can't put my finger on it.

 

Any help? All constructive criticism is completely welcome!

I would align the 'folded cards - general' bit and the little pictures with the left side of the B design panel

 

But what do I know!

For me, having to scroll down to see all the cards was a bugbear.

 

Would having sub-menus be better?

I find the high contrast banner/logo draws my attention away from the (lower contrast) content area.

 

Also it took me a moment or two to identify where the site links were (the low contrast ones right at the top of the banner)

Here are some pointers:

 

- make the whole thing a bit wider

- make everything just a little bit closer together

- make the banner a little smaller heightwise, and make it less blurry

- make the Folded cards >> General part the same width as the part above it

- use the same font all the way through the website

- make the copyright text a little smaller

- put a little but of margin at the top, like it is at the bottom

- make the whole thing have rounded corners

- instead of using hover images in the nav table, just make the background image change for each row on hover and use plain text

I know that you just wanted to know about the design but as web design is just as much about the code as it is the design, what bothers me about that site is the poor coding and use of frames.

 

I don't mean this as a nasty comment in fact I never thought to look at your code until I decided to click on the designed by link on the bottom and this happened:

 

 

 

 

I am sure that isn't how you wanted people clicking on the link to see your site. So be careful with your coding especially when you say on your site that your sites are user friendly, as when looking at the code they aren't at all. For example alt="" isn't helping anyone who uses a screen reader, so be careful with your images and maybe learn a little about accessibility if you want to make user friendly sites

 

As for the design its not terrible, I would consider looking at your header as the image at the top is a little odd and it might be better if you try something a little different. Also your view cart button just feels wrong as you have all these subtile shades of colour and then this odd brown button for the view cart, so it looks out of place.

Hmm its not my style to be honest with you. Im not a fan of the colours and the size of some things

Also it looks like you have exported it out of photoshop in slices as a HTML & Images :/

 

Looking at the site code gives me a little hint, also im not great lover with the 2 scroll frames, looks like a website with a iframe within it overloaded with text, hmmmmm.

 

Also you have a error with the bottom link to your site, you may be aware of it but it looks to me like your website opens within the div id="ldheHtml1" you have created, try putting 'target="_blank"' with your link to tibby designs, this will tell your browser to open a blank page for the selected link

Dizi, I had noticed that & modified it, only I hadn't published the modified version. I do agree that it doesn't very look user-friendly - come to think of it the whole design wasn't very user-friendly. I wasn't fond of the header either but my client really wanted to have it included.

 

By the way, I completely redesigned the page - so no more bad coding. It actually looks MUCH better and modern now. And user-friendly

Now that design is a LOT better. Very clean, very fresh

YES, today I'm full of inspiration! Actually I didn't have a breakfast and barely ate lunch, just working on that site as much as I possibly can

That design looks much better. But I'm not really digging the color scheme. Maybe try some shades of brown similar to the other one?

Could try that, however my client (who keeps changing her mind ) would like something spring-like and cheerful and clean. She's actually the one who suggested greens and oranges.
