New Portfolio Site

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm new here but I thought it was about time I found a good community to get involved with, particularly as I'm in the early stages of getting set-up as sole trader for my design work and will likely need some advice.

Now, this site is still just getting going, things on my plate right now;

  • Finish templating for each page
  • Add contact form
  • Implement CMSMS for a portion of the content, namely news
  • Add a lightbox script for the gallery pages
  • Footer layout and content (on top of the wood texture)
  • Stupid photo of my face will probably pop up somewhere
  • Lastly I'd like to learn enough flash to have the generic vector swirly bits animated behind the content.

So, let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Edit: I forgot the link! - http://www.bill-lowe.co.uk

Edit: Currently only the home and portfolio pages are up, along with 3 copies of the same gallery (though the graphic design page is the most up to date). Also an issue with the portfolio page seems to have cropped up, (fairly obvious layout problem) that should be fixed shortly.

i personally love this site.... its the kind that inspires me....

Must work harder at my own designs..... Runs to work harder

Really REally like it... love the background.... :)

Hi Bill

This is a nice looking site - well done. I do think you could get rid of the table on your portfolio page though and just use CSS to control the layout.

Whereabouts in Devon are you?

Thanks Emmi, much appreciated!

notbanksy: I may end up doing that but for now I find a table to be a bit more convenient. I'm South West, just outside Totnes, yourself?

Edit : I'm experiencing some problems getting my litebox integrated with the gallery. My problem is described here - http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.ph...amp;#entry90754

Oooh it is a very nice looking and slick/ sleek site - got to say I love it too. Even though it's a showcase of your graphical skills I hope there'll be some words in there too?! :D

And, come on now, there's nothing just outside Totnes! (When I was a pup I lived in Newton Abbot/Paignton/Torquay).

Thankyou Wizeley, there will indeed be words not too long from now, though I'm struggling to fix the issue mentioned in my previous post right now. Hopefully I can get that fixed and move on to the rest of the content.

I'm in Dartington, so just outside the "bubble" of Totnes... in a slightly smaller bubble. :)

A GLASS bubble perhaps! Sorry that I can't help with the gallery thing by the way!

Hi Bill

The website is wonderful and let me tell you why.

I run the rule over all aspects’ of word presentation and the website is flawless.

What sells the eyes - buys the client.

It is a privilege just to admire the many talents on this exclusive forum and enjoy the moment.

Good hunting

Thankyou for the kind words everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm very pleased with this site, it's easily my best work to date.

I'm probably going to give up on the litebox integration for now and move on to the rest of the content, I'll update this thread when things get moving.

Edit : the gallery pages are now working properly.

Again, thankyou everyone!

I like it! Where did you get those textures from :o

I think I may have found the wood stock photo at http://www.sxc.hu

Though I have quite a messy library of stock that I've collected over the years so I can't be sure. Sorry! I've spent a lot of time making seamless textures for games so you can imagine the collection of random pictures of walls and such that I have.

I've just finished redesigning my portfolio gallery selection page, would appreciate any thoughts people have, I don't know if it's quite right just yet.

I plan to resize the individual galleries and make things a little more interesting, they seem a bit small now that I've done this.

First thing, I love the site! It wouldn't look out of place in a CSS gallery :),

Second thing, your contact and profile links are dead.

Third thing, a warning really your XHTML doesn't validate, it has seven errors and three warnings, your CSS came up with ten errors and seven warnings! :(

Although you need to improve your coding skills you're definately onto something good and as I formentioned I love the aesthetics! :D

XHTML and CSS was validating before my overnight reworking of a few things, should be fixed up shortly.

Looks really nice, tell you used to be into games and skins etc.

Screams woothemes or something, but since its static HTML it canna be laddy!

I really like it, if you sort the HTML Errors out (ill ignore the moz css errors, since they arnt actual errors IMO they are browser specific) then it would be quite possibly the best website i've had the pleasure of commenting on so far.

However, the layout is not complete yet sooooo I'm waiting :p

Fantastic job on the artwork though!

*agrees*

Tighten up on your validation and standards compliance and you have something truly spectacular here. Very, very well done.
