XHTML and CSS was validating before my overnight reworking of a few things, should be fixed up shortly.

I've just finished redesigning my portfolio gallery selection page, would appreciate any thoughts people have, I don't know if it's quite right just yet. http://www.bill-lowe.co.uk/portfolio.html I plan to resize the individual galleries and make things a little more interesting, they seem a bit small now that I've done this.

I really like the latest mock-up you've posted. If anything I think I'd size things down but that's just me, I like small. It'll be interesting to see how you present your content which I'm sure will bring a little more life and contrast.

I've ripped the litebox script out for now as I need to get the site finished.

I like it a lot Sam, though I do have a few suggestions; Firstly, the colour scheme is a little dull, I would try and add some contrast in there. Find some brighter colours that match your existing scheme, http://kuler.adobe.com/ is usually my saviour in this department. Secondly, the header could use some vibrancy, I guess could be included with my first suggestion. Lastly, where's your work? Is this meant to be your portfolio or simply a profile/blog? If it's the former then there's a big lack of portfolio. On the whole however, I really like the site and it's definately an improvement on your previous version. Edit : I must have missed the JS accordian thing, which is nice. However, I think your work could be more of a focus.

I think I may have found the wood stock photo at http://www.sxc.hu Though I have quite a messy library of stock that I've collected over the years so I can't be sure. Sorry! I've spent a lot of time making seamless textures for games so you can imagine the collection of random pictures of walls and such that I have.

Thankyou for the kind words everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm very pleased with this site, it's easily my best work to date. I'm probably going to give up on the litebox integration for now and move on to the rest of the content, I'll update this thread when things get moving. Thankyou Wizeley, there will indeed be words not too long from now, though I'm struggling to fix the issue mentioned in my previous post right now. Hopefully I can get that fixed and move on to the rest of the content. I'm in Dartington, so just outside the "bubble" of Totnes... in a slightly smaller bubble.

Well, I'm not much of a developer so occasionally I reach a roadblock where I end up staring at code (in this case, .js files) that I really, really don't understand all that well. I'm using Litebox together with a slider script that I found. I was hoping to link to a fullsize version of my images using my usual litebox set-up. Initially I had problems with a newer version of litebox so have downgraded to the files from my old portfolio site, which helped resolved some issues. However, here's my problem. Upon enabling my litebox scripts, the slider basically breaks down and stops working. As I've said I'm not much of a coder so I don't really know where to start fiddling with this one. Here's the problem in action - http://www.bill-lowe.co.uk/gallery-gd.html Clicking the "View Full Size" links will open a litebox. I'm guessing that the location of those links (as part of the slider structure) is what's causing the problem. So, anyone got any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all, I'm new here but I thought it was about time I found a good community to get involved with, particularly as I'm in the early stages of getting set-up as sole trader for my design work and will likely need some advice. Now, this site is still just getting going, things on my plate right now; Finish templating for each page Add contact form Implement CMSMS for a portion of the content, namely news Add a lightbox script for the gallery pages Footer layout and content (on top of the wood texture) Stupid photo of my face will probably pop up somewhere Lastly I'd like to learn enough flash to have the generic vector swirly bits animated behind the content. So, let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! Edit: I forgot the link! - http://www.bill-lowe.co.uk Edit: Currently only the home and portfolio pages are up, along with 3 copies of the same gallery (though the graphic design page is the most up to date). Also an issue with the portfolio page seems to have cropped up, (fairly obvious layout problem) that should be fixed shortly.

The website appears fine, it's readable and in my opinion very well designed in terms of functionality and layout. Content is presented very nicely. However, as other people have mentioned I would certainly consider changing the colour scheme as the dark (and very generic bright navy blue) gives the site a slightly dated feel. I would also look at your logo and perhaps try and improve it's appearance. It's not a particularly eye catching motif and the title and subtitle feel disjointed and alien from each other. However, on the whole it feels like a site that's been built very well.
